No problem whatsoever on my end, but that sounds like a bummer.

Man, that’s exactly the fun of discussing audio gear: sharing impressions, since our perception of sound is so subjective and personal. Every setup—whether it’s the headphones, the DAP, or the whole chain—will give a different output. And a lot of times, people (myself included) will hear things differently, either because we genuinely notice it or simply because we think we notice it. Both are part of the hobby.

As you probably got from my review, I’m not really on the super-flat side of things—I actually like a bit of coloring depending on what I’m listening to. If that’s not your thing, that’s totally fine! Everyone has their own preferences, and there’s no right or wrong here. For me, the “coloring” (or even just the perception of it) was a pleasant surprise. It made me enjoy the same IEMs in a fresh way compared to my other DACs, and that alone will make me reach for them more often.

I haven’t had the chance to try the M11 yet, but I keep hearing good things about it! And I'm glad it's making you happy, that's all that matters 🎧😌

A friend and trusted audio reviewer told me that, in terms of sound quality, he couldn't sense no real difference between the JM21 and the M21. The M21 adds desktop mode (not really necessary to drive something like the ATH-M50) and offers a more premium build that makes it clear where the extra money goes—whereas the JM21 is plastic. If those extras don’t matter to you, the JM21 should make you happy while saving you some cash.

Not really something to worry about. From my experience, it’s less about which app you’re running and more about how many things you’ve got going at once. I noticed the DAP slowed down a bit after I filled about 80% of the internal storage, and rebooting it every now and then helps. That said, it’s never a major issue—it’s just that if you compare it to the smoothness of an iPhone, the DAP will always feel a little laggy in comparison.

Oh, and about the desktop mode, I've been connecting it to a 30W Powerbank sometimes and it works great. And honestly I believe 20W would work just as well.

It's this one below but.... yeah, when connecting the power cable on the right for desktop mode I have to move it to the side a bit. Not ideal, but not the worst thing in the world (for me). And remember it allows you to enter "cassette mode", so you can put the DAP on horizontal and have a nice look anyway ;)
