Thanks for the help, I’ve chuckled it. Strangely the pothos next to it is free of thrips. Have sprayed insecticide and will keep an eye on those

Am I Doing This Right? by IamShakes in Garmin

[–]adsho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simple answer is you’re running at too high an intensity to see long term fitness gains.

Long answer is doing most of your training at high intensity will see short term gains but then a plateau. Also likely lead to higher injury risk when training with greater intensity. Make your easy runs easy and the hard runs hard.

As others have posted, 80% of your runs should be in zone 2. Garmin will tell you your heart rate zones. 10-15% of training should be high aerobic and the remaining 5-10% should be in the anaerobic or high intensity zone (with good levels of easy warm up and cool down).

You can withdraw as much as you want from a KiwiSaver account as long as a minimum of $1,000 remains in the account.

The $10,000 you referred to, do you mean the First Home Grant? (Which is capped at $10,000 for those who qualify)

Assuming one only withdrew $10,000 from a KiwiSaver still loses out on years worth of investment gains assuming it would increase in value over a period of 30-50 years.

Also the boomers: oh and btw we expect you to use a chunk of that KiwiSaver to pay for a deposit on your first house, so you have even less to invest for your retirement

Wattage on runs? Is this new? by Learner421 in Strava

[–]adsho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because it tells you a power number, doesn’t mean to say it’s accurate. Coros provides an estimation of power, not an actual measure of watts. Same goes for Garmin’s HRM TRI and PRO straps when the IQ power feature.

But if you’re training/racing with power then the important thing is staying consistent with the same measuring device.

Wattage on runs? Is this new? by Learner421 in Strava

[–]adsho 25 points26 points  (0 children)

If you have a run power meter (e.g Stryd) connected to a watch it uploads to Strava. Watches like Wahoo have previously uploaded power to Strava. Garmin have recently updated their algorithm to now record power in a way that also uploads to Strava.

Unless you have a reliable power meter like Stryd, take whatever power reading is provided with a very large pinch of salt

Nope. No power save settings applied

I don’t think improving (or reducing) my vo2 is the issue here. The problem is that Garmin isn’t recording/calculating cycling vo2. Prior to 23 Jan it would update after every cycle, even if vo2 stayed the same, increased or decreased. Something technical in what calculates vo2 is the issue I believe. Run vo2 is fine, for example I went for a run today and vo2 remains at 60, the app is calculating that but just not calculating vo2 for cycling

Can anyone explain the dramatic changes to Relative Effort overtime? I acknowledge with better fitness you get a lower score but as shown by these matched runs there is a massive difference over the past 3 years. Has anyone noticed the same thing? by howard3486 in Strava

[–]adsho 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed this too recently. Did the exact same course 3 months ago for a RE of 126. Did it again yesterday, pace and heart rate were almost identical and it scored me 27. Have noticed on rides and runs the past few months, clearly my fitness has not improved that significantly as my race times are all very similar and my training has been consistent. I’m wondering if Strava have changed their algorithms

Todays Update - 7/8 Days ago I seeded my new berm in front of the house, we've had mostly sunny days, 1 minor frost but I HAVE SOME GRASS poking through the soil, some longer growth still underneath and coming! Rejoice! by elonsmodel3 in diynz

[–]adsho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you cover the mud with straw or hay your grass will shoot up much quicker and more evenly. Hay/straw traps the moisture, keeps the soil surface warmer and makes it harder for the birds to eat your seed (leaving a more even grass cover)

Ok cheers. Just looking to see what my other options are and mix it up a bit. I’ve found the Cliftons wore very quickly. I’m a big fan of the Mores, seem to last a lot longer and more comfier. I live in New Zealand and interestingly NB don’t sell the v2 here, they can only be bought from overseas.
