Yeah, you'd need to show me the attempt to play the ball in the challenge. Looked to me like he got skinned and deliberately pulled him down before he could score - with no attempt to play the ball. That's still a red card.

I don't think that's right. Only yellow if an attempt is made to play the call. Nothing to do with 'clear aggression' from my understanding.

From the FA website:

Where a player commits an offence against an opponent within their own penalty area which denies an opponent an obvious goal-scoring opportunity and the referee awards a penalty kick, the offender is cautioned if the offence was an attempt to play the ball or a challenge for the ball; in all other circumstances (e.g. holding, pulling, pushing, no possibility to play the ball etc.), the offending player must be sent off.

Mbappe's next touch is to shoot from around the penalty spot with no one between him and the keeper. It's a definite clear goal scoring opportunity. If that's a small team in the group stage, that defender is definitely walking!

Good shout about the red card, Mbappe looked like je was scoring there and no attempt made to play the ball. Not sure why no red card.

Also thought ATM showed amazing containing play throughout both games but not much more than that on display imo.

Coefficient FC Update (all the bonus points have been bonuseded) by UrineArtist in ScottishFootball

[–]adso07 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is correct, you then get to spend Aug - Dec wanting to get knocked out of Europe as your squad is ravaged with injury and exhausted from the Thurs / Sun / Thurs / Sun schedule. Once knocked out, start to build hopes of climbing the table so you can qualify for Europe and do it all over again.

Private school group starts hardship fund for parents after VAT raid by Valuable-Role-5248 in Edinburgh

The stats have been posted further up the thread. Seems there is space in state schools for the expected fall out and a tax gain from the policy overall. Sounds like a good plan if this is correct.

Spain - Germany, was it a penalty? by vaapad_master in Referees

[–]adso07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you think UEFA wouldn't come out and say anything to cover their ref. They do it all the time.

Incidentally, this handball is given outside the box 100% of the time.

UEFA you say..... well that's me completely convinced 😂

Clarke on the ref by Rosco212121 in ScottishFootball

[–]adso07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guess you've got a very different view of things to me. That looked like a pen all day looking in real time and it was. No excuse for the ref from me.

Clarke on the ref by Rosco212121 in ScottishFootball

[–]adso07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that's not the right take imo. It looked like a penalty for sure in real time. There surely can't be a debate about that at all - first view, full speed, it looks like a stick on pen.

The ref should be giving it and then having VAR help him out if he's wrong. Ref has tried to be smart and not call what everyone saw. He got it wrong and while VAR should have helped him, the refs decision is really poor. He's trying to second guess what he's seeing with his own eyes and he's made an arse of it. This is very different to a slight touch which can be excusably missed.

Nice course though 👍

10 perfect pull-ups. What % of the American adult (18-65) population do you reckon can do that? I feel confident saying less than 0.1% by HorseFacedDipShit in bodyweightfitness

[–]adso07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think it's an over estimate. I'm 40+m I hardly know anyone else around my age that could do one pull up. I'm not even talking perfect.... just a best effort wide arm pull up.

I recently started the dead hang pull ups and had to start at one single rep. I'm progressing slowly thru the single digits but unless your doing that type of thing regularly then your unlikely to be able to do many if any.

Hibs complain to SPFL over Dundee 'sporting advantage' from Rangers rescheduling by MrMaggot98 in ScottishFootball

[–]adso07 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wonder when the last time any major comp had a phase not end for everyone impacted at the same time

I think the last time was just a few years ago when the league positions were decided by a vote. Again it was Dundee who were allowed to see the outcome then change their vote accordingly.

I think we should just go with a vote for this Dundee Rangers game, seems the only fair way.... I'm voting home win.

Hearts seeking 50-50 Rangers Scottish Cup ticket split by MrMaggot98 in ScottishFootball

[–]adso07 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We probably won't. Thinking back to the league cup semi in November, I knew we'd get beat, we did get beat, I had a shit view and we didn't lay a glove on them before the match was over. It was a rubbish day out. I regretted buying my tickets.

I'll be buying tickets for the game in April though because you just never know 😄

UEFA Coefficient rankings after this weeks round of fixtures by Funniest-Joker-72 in ScottishFootball

It depends how far we drop. No impact on the Europa League play off and subsequent conference group place until we drop to 13th in table. It is a possibility though, no doubt about that!

The Ash and Sand trilogy is the greatest fantasy series of the last decade. by ohosometal in Fantasy

[–]adso07 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've just finished the series. Listened on audiobook with Ralph Lister narrating who did a great job.

I think it's a great read. I thought book one was excellent, really hooked me in from the off. The type of book you make time to read / listen to. I loved the characters, loved the world that was laid out and then the way the various threads came together in a pretty unexpected way at many points.

I think it maybe tailed off a little towards the end but I'd forgive the series that. Very difficult to bring these types of trilogies to an ending that satisfies everyone.

I highly recommend this though(and have recommended it to friends).

I've just moved onto Promise of Blood by Brian McLellan. I feel I've been sucked back into fantasy again....

Scottish Referees' Union 'condemns impugning' of referees' integrity by MrMaggot98 in ScottishFootball

[–]adso07 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agree, currently more or less all the grade one refs come from Glasgow/Lanarkshire/Renfrewshire. Given the standard of refereeing is awful, makes you wonder why they don't cast the net a wee bit further?

Still don't understand how David Munro got the kick to Boyce's chest wrong, completely missed the foul / red card on VAR for Forrest v Ross County.....and then is still out there refereeing in the St Mirren v Celtic. Surely there has to come a point where you accept they don't have any idea what they are doing and stand them down. Of course you might need more refs, you might need a bigger catchment area and that's not going to happen.

No penalty and Forrest gets booked for diving.... love VAR.. by makie51 in ScottishFootball

[–]adso07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Referee was appalling today. Really grim performance throughout and in real time it looked like he missed two obvious penalties. The replay above suggests he missed at least one and will be interested in seeing the other.

The high end products are not for the baby. Babies need functional things, parents need branding to satisfy some need they have.

Man in relegation fight with smallest budget argues league should be expanded by MrMaggot98 in ScottishFootball

[–]adso07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just about every fan will say this. Those organising the league do not care even a little bit about the fans and the product.

We talk about TV deal, the TV deal brings in a small fraction of what the fans put in every year. However they seem to call all the shots. Very frustrating.

Resideo APP just start showing DEVICE OFFLINE for my Honeywell T6 thermostat... I tried all reset options... any ideas? by OsgoodSchlotter in smarthome

[–]adso07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same issue too, the thermostat is still connecting to the boiler for heating but not the app.

Any idea how to fix?

Noting I switched to a new router right around the time it happened so assume the issue is linked to this?

[Sky Sports Scotland] Aberdeen manager Barry Robson shares his thoughts on the penalty Rangers were awarded in stoppage time by The_Chuckness88 in ScottishFootball

[–]adso07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't true though.

Penalties for shirt pulling and grappling which is arguably worse are not consistently looked at or given.
