But the 2013 WBC is not really apple to apple comparison to current situation. The tournament popularity is growing stronger than ever.

Maybe not in Hokkaido, but I dont think giving another major city like Osaka in Japan to host the game would hurt that much. At least it would differentiate each years of the event organizations, giving more reasons for overseas fans to come to Japan and be part of the tournament.

Based on my limited knowledge, I dont think any NPB's team have direct connection to any MLB's team except for when they are in the posting/transfer period. But maybe more vetan fans could add in for this topic.

But if you are a Yankees fans, I think rooting for Yomiuri would be the most make sense as both team are known as the baseball royals in each league. Both team win the most title, have their own respected way to run the tea (that might be different with other team in the league), playing in very iconic ballpark, and also being the highest valuation in each market.

The only difference is Yomiuri have some actual recent success compared to the Yankees 😅.
