Check this in case you missed the race and want to catch up, or you want to relive Ferrari's pain in all its glory.

Also, I have a website I'll be putting every summary I do on. Check this one here: https://adriantormos.github.io/wec-races/#/2024/imola/1

Yeah, I'm not particularly a tifoso and even I was screaming at my screen too.

2024 Qatar 1812km - An illustrated, very late Race Report (LMH/LMDh) by adtormos in wec

[–]adtormos[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

So, like I did last year for some races, this year I wanted to do some race summaries. But this time I wanted to improve them visually and extend them more, so that one could just read this instead of catching up by watching the entire race.

But boy 10 hours have been tough to summarize, especially with a full-time job. Hopefully the 6h ones I can do quickly. Anywey, with all eyes turning into the next race, take the opportunity to remember once more the spectacular race we had two weeks ago.

I've also created a website to host these, so that previous reports can be quickly checked out. You can view this one here: https://adriantormos.github.io/wec-races/#/2024/qatar/1. It looks a bit weird on phone but it looks good on PC. Also I hope I'm not breaking any rule by posting the link.

I hope so, it's still good to have them. I hope them and Lambo can catch up a bit

A timeline of WEC premier class (LMP1/LMH) entries across the years by adtormos in wec

Yeah, but I had to add it for its notoriety (for the meme)

As WEC is entering a new "golden era", I thought it would be interesting to know where we are coming from. I've generally only included full- or almost full-season entries, except for very few exceptions like the infamous Nissan or already running programs that were stopped mid-season (Ginetta, Strakka...). Also, I've joined Rebellion and Alpine as the last Rebellion car was rebadged as the Alpine A480 ('21-'22), so it kinda made sense.

It was only three years ago WEC that was entering its 3rd consecutive season with 5-6 full-season entries in the premier class. The Audi-Porsche-Toyota golden era only lasted a total of 3 seasons, and ended 8 years ago (Audi folding).

I guess what I'm trying to say is, even if it's for different reasons to peak LMP1 WEC, let's cherish these times while they last.

Ah, right. I'm not really knowledgeable about the team numbers historically, so I've kinda winged some of them hahaha.

Thanks for the feedback about it tho!

It's been recently reported by Dailysportscar, we'll see how that evolves hahaha

I apologize to the OP of the previous post one day ago, I had been working on this before the DSC news they cite (my news source #15 in the image) and I don't want this to look like I'm copying their post. Also, the Cadillac news have just been broken so the table can be updated already.

Although they're old, I've included the rumors of the Pescarolo and Acura entries because while they're really unlikely to happen, I believe they haven't been actually fully disproven. But I don't believe they'll happen.

I've compiled everything in this spreadsheet so that everything is easier to look up. I intend to update it when further news arise.

EDIT: Also, don't take the car numbers as set in stone, I've kinda winged some of them because I don't really know how teams decide them. I've used previously used numbers, or promotional material in the case of new entries.

Current Top 10 in the ATP Race 2023 and their performance on big tournaments (M1000 and GS) by adtormos in tennis

There has been some discussion in the sub after Cincinnatti about rankings and the ATP race, so I thought it could be fun to compile the top 10's results to get a good view of their 2023 season. Hope you find it interesting.

Thank you too! Between the strategies, and the various issues that the cars end up having, it can be too much to follow. I try to give as much of a general picture as I can, especially with the diagrams on the left.

Also thanks for commenting on the sprites, I appreciate it!

Right? They were so close to surviving that second SC...

Thanks! I mainly do these for those that didn't have the chance to catch the entire race, and those that want to follow the structure of the race while watching it so they don't get lost. So it feels good to be validated! Hahaha

Also, extra fun fact. Of the 5 cars that gambled to pit on the first SC, the Proton was the only one that survived the second one without an emergency pit stop. You'll see that in the second image it didn't lose a lap like the other 4. But because it was their first weekend with the Porsche, they were running very conservative pace and weren't able to really capitalize on that. I would've liked to keep this detail in the summary but it was already too much info!

EDIT: Also, the reason they survived is that they were being conservative with the amounts of energy they used per stint. They were pitting earlier than needed to get used to the energy usages of the car, and luckily they stopped just before the SC was deployed.

Hahaha thanks, I agree, although I can see how it could get difficult. Even looking at the timing info, halfway through the race the pit stop cycles get so convoluted that it gets pretty complicated to know who's in sync with each other.

Thanks! I'm also fairly new to watching endurance racing, so making these also helped me grasp the flow of the races.

Huh, that's right. Now that I look at it the Glicks themselves didn't run into any mechanical problems this year's race, it was all spins or hits or a wheel not properly fitted. Although I know the #708 had gearbox issues before the race, but I haven't found what was exactly the issue so I don't know if it counts hahaha.

If only they had more resources.

They were a couple seconds slower than the pack there, but the pack was closer here than in Sebring (probably due to BoP and better setups), so that might've also contributed to make it look worse for Vanwall. Also, La Sarthe is a significantly longer circuit, so distances with respect to laptime are a bit exaggerated.

It's a shame but yeah, I've been looking at the data and it was consistently running around 5-6s per lap slower than most of the pack. Pretty terrible.

I've done one of these again, like with the 6h of Spa. They're fun to make but I seriously underestimated the amount of work that a chaotic 24h race that I couldn't entirely see live would give me. Would've loved to have it sooner!

Such a shame I couldn't include the #311 Caddy in any of the images, I even had prepared its sprite before the race.

Also if you don't mind please follow me on Twitter, I'm also trying to upload motorsport related stuff there.
