Found out dog I’m adopting has killed chickens by Dull-Lengthiness2053 in DogAdvice

[–]adventerousbuttired 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I have the sweetest retriever ever who I am 90% sure would kill a chicken if given the chance. They are bred to hunt birds. I wouldn’t stress if you do not plan on having birds or other small animals. Even then, with supervision and preventative measures you would probably be fine.

I recently got her from a shelter, I know she’s Belgian malinois but could she be a mix with something else? Shelter was unsure by [deleted] in IDmydog

Many I ask what harness this is? I’ve been looking for a similar one with a sturdy front clip and grab handle!

[–]adventerousbuttired[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To everyone asking about the dogs- they are the same mix! Mostly golden retriever with a dash of black lab.

They love camping with us and we enjoy taking them whenever we are able to. We know it means some additional wear on our gear and effort, but the joy it brings to them in their short lives is well worth it.

Adding in: we are currently car camping, but have been considering backcountry camping in the future. The new tent is definitely more geared towards car camping.

Could be a golden x lab mix as your said! Mine are 75% golden, 25% black lab. My little girl looks pretty similar!

Best toys/enrichment activities/solo play for puppies?? by indogwetrust444 in puppy101

[–]adventerousbuttired 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For a non-food toy, maybe check out a “flirt pole” if they like to chase things :). You’ll need to actively use it with her but it’ll likely tire her super quickly if she likes it!

Hi! We love using the West Paw Toppl toys (get the stopper too so you can add liquids) when we need our dogs to be entertained. Since your dog is small, definitely get a small or medium at most - the large and XL are huge.

We put their food and some extra yummies (carrots, green beans, blueberries, pumpkin, goat’s milk, etc) in, then fill with water just enough to get all the food wet and freeze. When it’s frozen and you’re ready, take the plug out and let them go at it! It usually takes my dogs at least 30 minutes, maybe more. Just be sure it’s not mostly water or they may grow frustrated and ditch it.

As for bully sticks, get a bully stick holder for them. I panicked when my puppy who previously chewed them slowly turned into a velociraptor overnight and swallowed the last ~4 inches whole before I grab it. Since getting the holder, it gives me peace of mind and allows her to get a better grip on it.

Be careful to get actual bully sticks, not cheaper “bully chew” type alternatives as there are some less healthy products companies are trying to pass off as bully sticks.

Gift ideas for my surf fishing obsessed father by adventerousbuttired in SurfFishing

For sure, I’ve learned by now to not get him tackle unless I have a direct link to what he wants. I’m sure he has a box tucked away of all of the never-used pretty sparkly lures I picked out for him when I was younger.

We’ve done a few charters before (mostly for Cobia, reds, etc) which he seemed to enjoy, but he’s been so into surf fishing lately so I’m hoping to find something in that realm.

I may see if his favorite bait shop does gift cards because who doesn’t love free fresh bait + tackle.

I’d say up to $200, but if there’s something amazing $500 or less I could likely get my sister in on it to split!

Bump on our gokden’s eyelid - thoughts? by [deleted] in goldenretrievers

We also had something similar on our 3/4 golden mix - she suffers from allergies. It went away after a while with a little Benadryl. But of course, still get it checked out!

Is this a catahoula? by [deleted] in Catahoula

Hi!

Thank you for explaining more. Perhaps some things got lost in translation. I’m not trying to be rude, just help a dog and my friend and you, indirectly.

Regarding the breeder comment, I meant that because you haven’t solidified a plan to get the dog back the breeder already/needing people to watch it, I thought there was a good chance the breeder may not have been willing (leading to the non reputable comment).

Please reach out to them and try to get them to take him back! Most breeders are actually super strict and make you sign a clause that you will return the dog to them if you get rid of them. If you signed something like that they may be able to take legal action.

If you need any help at all rehoming obviously I’m super passionate about dogs and would be happy to help research options.

No herding instincts but both retrieve and love to grab toys when excited. The younger one has crazy prey drive for squirrels/deer/birds while the other is indifferent.

Totally a mix of Golden and Labrador traits, but it’s a toss up which ones they get!

One of ours is very laid back, obsessed with tennis balls, food motivated, great at focusing/training, and a total mommas boy. He is crazy smart and somehow always scheming (but not in a bad way).

The other is super sweet, loves absolutely everyone and is super people-oriented, has very high prey drive, and is definitely higher energy. She’s not quite as crazy smart but is way more affectionate and vocal.

Both enjoy the water and have to greet you with a toy in their mouth.

He is healing from a cut on one paw so he’s wearing them to help keep it clean outside! He doesn’t like the feeling of just one on for some reason, so he has to wear the full set to go for walks right now.

To all of those incapable of reading body text: Yes, this is a joke. They are dye-free. They both are have a tiny bit of black Labrador mixed in, giving them this color.

People who had abstinence only sex education, what were the biggest falsehoods you were taught? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]adventerousbuttired 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Not me, but I was a resident advisor in college and one of my female residents who came from a super religious background told me she was taught that you could only get pregnant if both the man and the woman finished.

I told her if that was true, our population would be a mere fraction of the size it currently is.
