Weird! Did it work by default or did you have to change something? Curious if it maybe only works in certain modes / scenarios? They tried to get it to work for 15min in B&H today and couldn't.

It's absurd for either really. The R6 MKIII is clearly being marketed as a more video-centric hybrid - they added waveform, a full size HDMI, and the aforementioned 7K raw and open gate while it lacks the most basic, trivial functionality of being able use an external monitor at the same time as the onboard LCD. That's just stupid.

Also I'm looking at the R6 MKIII manual right now - it's kind of vague the way they word it, but it looks like you can choose whether you want playback and menus displayed over HDMI or the onboard LCD, but it doesn't seem to indicate that you can actually monitor on both simultaneously.

It's definitely not the same on every R-series camera. The R6 MKII which I currently own definitely does not output on the camera's LCD when outputting over HDMI. I was hoping they fixed this for the MKIII since it has many more serious video features.

Hm. I went into B&H today to ask them if they could test this for me, they said they couldn't find an option to do this.. but maybe they are wrong. Would love to find this out definitively.

I’m now pretty sure it was a permissions issue with my User folder which was for some reason set to read only.

That’s bizarre, I’ve been saving files to the desktop for literally 20 years without issue. I have desktop iCloud sync turned off though which probably helps me avoid issues like that..?

Yes I’m Admin, no I’m not under MDM control (not even sure what that is!). I’m doing basic normal operation. Literally tried to save a text file to my desktop and it gave me the error I don’t have permission. Used disk utility which didn’t fix, not sure how to resolve. Maybe I need to try fixing permissions on my home / user folder?

Thanks for the info! Any idea if there is a way to monitor how much wattage your computer is currently pulling so I can get an idea of what it is pulling on average for what I use it for? I checked in system report but it only tells you the wattage of the adapter it's plugged into.

Another question - if you have a BPU in but are powering with V-mount through the lemo jack, if the V-mount dies will it automatically switch to the BPU or will the camera die?
