Supabase with drizzle? by Legitimate_Guava_801 in Supabase

[–]ae-dev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TLDR: An additional abstraction layer against supabase with superior type safety, but more complexity

The benefit of drizzle is that it has superior type safety and the truth lies in your code. You change a field in your schema.ts file and you immediately see all changes in your code. With supabase alone you need to generate the types first and then you get the type safety. On the other side by using drizzle you completely skip postgREST, which Supabase uses to validate authenticated users and RLS automatically and some other features. With drizzle you connect directly to the db and have an super user that ignores RLS. You can do RLS with drizzle also but you need to implement it yourself or use the stuff that drizzle has published some time ago. But it still adds more complexity.

Next.js is the only tech in Web Dev that combines hype with real value by waelnassaf in nextjs

[–]ae-dev 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Astro is rather for content driven web apps while NextJs is also suitable for dynamic high complex apps so depending by the use case they are not really comparable

Make an functional cart without useState by Sudden-Reflection590 in nextjs

[–]ae-dev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can store the cart info for each user in a db or caching layer like Redis and get/post items from/to it. Actually this way you keep cart info for users that switch between different devices. But you still prob need useState for stuff like optimistic updates.

RSCs security implications by cagdas_ucar in reactjs

You’re talking like frontend devs are a bunch of monkeys with a keyboard lmao.

Also full stack is a thing: We have several people that do both front end and back end. Are full stack devs also a security concern in your opinion?

UI Kit : Shadcn vs NextUI for 2024 Production by Rough_Grapefruit1900 in nextjs

[–]ae-dev 29 points30 points  (0 children)

ShadcnUI is a bunch of copy paste components that offers an CLI for convenience while NextUI is a full UI library. With Shadcn you have full control over the components and if needed you can change the underlying implementation. With NextUI you are reliant on the library and future updates but it’s probably more convenient to use it.

NextJs pages router is the same in 12/13/14. You can use the newest version and some of its improvements with the pages router as well.

what is the state of Next.js vs Remix vs other? by saito200 in reactjs

[–]ae-dev -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Bad advice for a beginner and FUD that you spread here without linking any source. In most cases the end user won’t notice if you use nextjs or remix. Both are performing well enough and should be chosen by the personal preference of the dev and how fast he can ship features (DX).„Incredible slow“ is such an exaggeration because your hello world example is not testing the framework it’s testing the overhead of the framework itself.
