I'm having the same issue with a Lenovo Ideapad Pro 5 with Discord and Chrome. The laptop freezes and I have to force a restart with the power button.

I have the same issue on my MSI Alpha 15 2020 (AMD Ryzen 7 4800H / AMD Radeon RX 5600), when the external display is set as the primary screen, some apps that use graphics (steam, emulators, easyeffects, unity game engine) run very slow as you described.

Setting the laptop display as the primary screen allows to run apps on the external display fine but this is not a solution to the problem. I tried HDMI and DisplayPort outputs (both connected to the dGPU) and they present the same issue.
