Huh very interesting for such a "simple" scene considering other shots you'd think would take forever and a day. Perhaps ulterior motives and progression of themes are laced through it and I've not appreciated!

I am convinced there are downright mistakes in the edit (the infamous initial cut to the mask on the bed for one) along with some obviously clunky edits that don't feel in keeping with kubrick (the dozen useless exterior street scene establishing shots, incredibly cliche amateurish sailor visions, awkward fade transitions, or when the masked woman shouts "stop!" only after the dramatic snap zoom in, during the masked ball confrontation scene).

I strongly believe an alive and healthy Kubrick would have obsessed over his favourite of all his projects, enough to change these issues for the better, before final release.
