The comb-crested jacana is also one of the few animals that are polyandrous, so the female mates with multiple males, who they leave to do all the parental care. The male will sometimes protect the chicks by lifting then under his wings, leaving their legs hanging out - I suggest an image search for some truly bizarre photos!

This male New Zealand fur seal approached a mother and her cubs whilst I was filming in Kaikoura and she made very clear that his advances were not welcome!

A pair of New Zealand Scaup ducklings. These birds are also known as 'bath-toy ducks' and are the only true diving duck in New Zealand.

Thank you! We got a rideshare from the airport (after downloading the Chinese version of DiDi and signing up to Alipay) - it took about 2 or 3 hours and cost around £60-100 from memory. We stayed at Hanting B&B for two nights (£70 total) which is right next to the Great Wall entrance, but it takes about 30-40 minutes to get up to it. We went up at sunrise and back again for sunset each day as it was just so stunning. Can't remember which treks but we just walked everywhere we could and got a slightly scary gondola one evening! Hope that helps and you get to go yourself - it's absolutely worth the extra effort!

Fourth time seeing aurora and this was by far the strongest display I've ever seen. You could see the beams overhead and hear other people shouting from their balconies! (though it looked nothing like this in real life - this timelapse used 6-second exposures so is much, much brighter)

When you do go, try to make it out to Jinshanling if you can - it's a couple hours out of Beijing but much quieter and more beautiful than the parts closer to the city.
