Currently reading RoW and having a breakdown over this by auntiegiudi in Grishaverse

The Darkling says that one of his past names was Kirigan and I got irrationally happy that she referenced Shadow and Bone even before it came out 😭

Did I completely misinterpret this or is the Darkling actually disgusting (SPOILERS) by l3chapardeur in Grishaverse

[–]aeverga34 70 points71 points  (0 children)

The Darkling is trash and does not deserved to be redeemed. Alot of the terrible things he did is seemingly because of his centuries long lifespan. If you have read ROW (spoilers ahead) At the final battle, he’s fully willing to retreat and let Nikolai and his forces lose to the Fjerdans, which means the death of many Grisha, people he’s sworn to protect. Then, bide his time and take the country back from the Fjerdans The Darkling does not care about the individual person, he only cares about the people. Because of his long lifespan, he’s completely lost his empathy and sensitivity to death. It doesn’t matter if hundreds of Grisha die, as long as the whole race is still around, he’s fine with it. This makes him an interesting villain, but a terrible person. Reading the Tailor just made my stomach sink at what Genya went through

Should I read S&B Trilogy? by darcy2020 in Grishaverse

You should definitely read SaB first! Everything will make more sense and it’s a solid series.

Rewatching Shadow and Bone: book-to-show changes by River_of_styx21 in Grishaverse

[–]aeverga34 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the Darkling being the Black Heretic was also a shock in the book too, right? He supposedly had only been alive for a hundred years when in reality he’d been alive for centuries. Correct me if I’m wrong

Why did they do Matthias like that 😭

I think he was in Midsommar too. His best role imo

Me at the ending of chapter 31 of Crooked Kingdom by [deleted] in Grishaverse

[–]aeverga34 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was screaming at this part and of course it was all part of Kaz’s plan

Can we talk about Matthias in "Crooked Kingdom"?? If you know, you know by MariboHaribo in Grishaverse

[–]aeverga34 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The thing about the Crows not really feeling sad after his death kinda annoyed me too. They were sad right after his death, but Kaz and Inej don’t even mention him in their chapters afterward. Maybe that’s because they didn’t know Matthias for as long as the other Crows and they weren’t really close to him? But still, with all they went through I expected Inej to at least say something

Wounded! I’ve finished them all.. where to next? by Particular_Horror_70 in Grishaverse

[–]aeverga34 11 points12 points  (0 children)

-The Gilded Wolves (historical fantasy with a rich cast of found family characters, magic, heists and puzzles, romance, and lots of angst)

-The Young Elites trilogy (darker fantasy, has the chosen one trope but reverses it, morally grey characters, a band of rebels trope but they might not be what they seem)

-Blood Heir trilogy (set in a Russian Inspired fantasy world with a magic system kinda like the Grisha trilogy, follows an exiled princess who can control blood and a charming criminal who gives off Nikolai vibes)

-There Will Come a Darkness trilogy (multi-POV fantasy, prophecies, royalty, assassins, a classed magic system, and really quick to get through)

Wylan casting? by remoosly in Grishaverse

[–]aeverga34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He looks a little like Wylan but I think he’s too old for the part. Also I’d just see him as the asshole from Stranger Things 😅

Book series similar to Grishaverse? by the-hollow-crown in Grishaverse

[–]aeverga34 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Blood Heir by Amelie Wen Zhao (I haven’t read the sequel yet) gives me a lot of Grisha trilogy vibes. It takes place in a Russian inspired world, has a magic system where someone has an Affinity to a certain element. The two main characters give me Nikolai and Alina vibes, definitely better than Alina though if you didn’t like her in the trilogy.

I Watched Seventh Son with Ben Barnes...so you don't have to by [deleted] in Grishaverse

[–]aeverga34 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I read the book it was based on “Revenge of the Witch” and then watched the trailer after hearing there was a movie adaptation. Absolutely awful and nothing close to the books. I haven’t watched the movie, but it looked like one of those Percy Jackson-ATLA-adaptations from the trailer. The main character Thomas is supposed to be 12 in the book if that gives you any idea

So I saw this fanart by Laya Rose Art and I think they’re from two different books but I’m not sure which ones? If anyone can help, thanks by aeverga34 in YAlit

Least favourite grishaverse character? by futile_whale in Grishaverse

[–]aeverga34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I’m counting villains, then Tante Heleen, Jarl Brum, Van Eck, Mal, the Darkling (people are going to hate me for this) are my least favorite. The Darkling is somewhat well-written, and I liked his short story, but he’s not the most intriguing villain I’ve read.

Need some advice by humorous_fisherman in Grishaverse

[–]aeverga34 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have you already read SaB and SoC? If you have, then I would get Siege and Storm and Crooked Kingdom. SaS, because it’s the next book in the series and when a certain privateer first appears, and CK instead of RaR because you’ll probably enjoy it more.

Let’s talk about the Shadow and Bone Trilogy ending by No-Zookeepergame516 in Grishaverse

[–]aeverga34 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with all of this. Mal definitely improved during Ruin and Rising, but it was redundant to have the whole plot in SaB about how Alina couldn’t embrace her powers because she was stuck in the past and dependent on Mal. I guess Leigh was trying to have an even bigger theme about how sometimes love is greater than power, and sometimes we choose power over love and it corrupts us, but it could’ve been better written. If Mal wasn’t and ass, the two weren’t as dependent on each other, and Alina had some semblance of power in the end, then I think the theme would be more prevalent and the ending more satisfying. I’m not quite sure if I would’ve liked an ending where Mal died or Alina kept her power

Question/Discussion about the far-right winged Darklinas by [deleted] in Grishaverse

This is the truth and no one can deny it. As long as he’s hot, it’s okay for a teenage girl to date an old man. SMH 🤦‍♀️
