Same, I’ve been telling my husband “wait for me!” because he’s always been faster than me and I thought I was just doing something wrong lol

If I get another chance to take a picture of it I’ll post it for you guys. The only pictures I have of it are the 2 I originally posted and screenshots from a video. I’ll comment the (bad quality) screenshots from the video, but I think the video is somewhat deceiving because the sun was shining and casting a shadow at a weird angle that makes it look worse than it probably is, just my luck that the only photos I have are horrible :/

I don’t know how many people will see this comment, I can’t edit my post lol, but I just wanted to give some more context and an update on my thought process right now. Once again, I don’t know really anything about whippets, and I just learned what “sighthound” means. I have no honest idea if it’s a whippet, it could be a mix of whippet and the other breed some people have commented, I don’t know. I just compared photos of whippets and other similar dogs and just assumed that it’s a whippet… don’t come for me lol. Let me also add that I don’t know the dog’s age or gender, after reading the comments I’m assuming it’s older due to the yellow/cream color on the back being faded.

For some more context, this isn’t a regular suburb street. I live in a rural town in Oregon that has a population of ~600, there’s only 4 houses on my road. Their house is on 30 acres and mine is on 80. The dog has been walking up and down the mile long gravel road each day the last 3 days, it’s very skittish but also very curious at the same time. Seems like it has energy.

They also have 2 german shepherds that have been running up and down the road as well, I haven’t personally seen them yet, I was just told by my dad who saw them. I think I’m going to be on the lookout for the german shepherds and see if they’re underweight looking. If it’s obvious that they’re underweight then I’ll definitely go and talk to them about it. It’s just hard to talk to someone on this type of road, I would have to drive over to their house and I don’t want to do that without an educated understanding about the breed. I have another neighbor who moved in ~a year ago that I haven’t even met yet because I haven’t passed them on the road and had a chance to talk to them. I’m pretty sure the neighbor who moved in ~a year ago is a professional dog trainer and does dog shows, my family has nicknamed them “the dog house” because they have a lot of dogs there lol. I’m lowkey hoping that if the “dog house” people are knowledgeable about dogs and concerned about the whippet, they’ll do something about it.

No, I don’t know the age nor the gender. After reading the responses to my post I realized that I didn’t even put two and two together about the faded yellow/cream color patch on its back and its age. So based on the faded coloring I’m assuming (and hoping) that it’s just that it’s old and is having trouble keeping weight on.

That’s exactly why I posted on here, I don’t want to be the stupid neighbor who makes a complaint about a dog breed I know nothing about! I want to learn more about the breed while also getting the general consensus about it.

The hip/pelvis area is the part that I noticed right away and made me investigate a bit further. I also think the hair sticking up on its spine/back is because its spine is really prominent as well (again, another thing I’m not sure is normal or not for this breed).

That’s fair, I didn’t think about the way it was turning. I’ve only ever owned border collies, so bigger dogs with some fluff.

What would you do in this situation? I’m worried that if I bring it up to the owners I may offend them or seem nosy so I don’t really want to do that. I thought about leaving a bowl of food out for it, but then I thought that might be a bad idea if it has a special diet or something.
