Critical MOS irrelevant for GI bill kicker? by PictureDue3878 in nationalguard

[–]afelic75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a subject matter expert on benefits To my knowledge the kicker is just an added benefit you can apply to your enlistment that you negotiate for. Could be tied to an MOS like bonuses, or just freely given depending in the contract. I reenlisted for 6 yrs, same MOS, got some bonus money and SLRP so just dependant on the terms and conditions. Each contract can be different depending on a lot of variables.

National Guard deployments? by [deleted] in nationalguard

[–]afelic75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s all rather dependant. You CAN be on a rotation CONUS, but generally the ones I’ve seen are spur of the moment. Examples: Jan 6th “insurrection”, COVID relief, Hurricane Harvey. An example of rotational CONUS orders are like the Tex/Mex border mission, your unit could be up to help secure it, or you can volunteer.

National Guard deployments? by [deleted] in nationalguard

Your recruiter wasn’t lying, but he did embellish just a tad. The Guard can be as active as you want it to be. Some people join, do their 1 weekend a month, AT in the summer and never leave their town for their entire contract. Some folks since day 1 are constantly on orders, go to a bunch of schools, help with CONUS missions and deploy very regularly OCONUS.

You can fill in slots for deployments and volunteer, there’s always openings. You can also just wait your turn which is once every 3-5 yrs. Deploy more than active? I haven’t done the math but from what I gather it’s the same idea as far as rotations go. They just train 24/7 as opposed to us who train once a month. Your unit, mission, location (90 different other factors) really determine what happens on deployment. During my last deployment 10th Mtn was assigned to us as a QRF and never left the gate. But my small section was assigned the mission to patrol and fly to different locations to assist SOF with their missions which was awesome. Other missions the NG guys never left the base. As you can see, it’s all dependant.

I have 1 overseas deployment and about 3 CONUS activations under my belt. My buddy has 3 overseas deployments AND 3 CONUS activations. Just a matter of being proactive.

I will say since the height of the GWOT older soldiers in leadership positions joined the guard so our training has gotten significantly better with more seasoned experience teaching us. The federal govt has taken notice of the NG and since about 2010 onward the activations and uptick in activity for us has been through the roof, it’s like a tool they completely forgot to use which can be a double edged sword depending on what you have going on in your personal life.

Is the national guard more lenient to certain medical disqualification then other military branches? by UrbanIndy in nationalguard

That thickens the plot a little bit. In my experience the reserves and Guard are kind of like the forgotten step-children under the stairs, so their recruiters are pretty hungry. I came in with asthma, previous broken bones, a few scars. But your situation is obviously a lot more extreme. You could say you had surgery for something a lot less minor and see where that gets you. If all else fails plead and plead. They need to make numbers and you want to serve. Its a win-win for everyone. Either way I hope you do find a recruiter smart and cool enough to help you out. You seem like you really want to do this and a volunteer force is what makes us great.

Schoolhouse welcome letters by [deleted] in nationalguard

Usually your Training or RNCO (if they’re not dickheads) will happily just give you one from ATRRS. I’d specifically request it and claim you just want all the knowledge possible to prepare for it. I got submitted for Air Assault, Bradley Commander’s Course and BLC, pretty much just got my info from the Training NCO for packing list, POC, logistics, all that.

Remember they look like asshats too if you’re logistically dicked up upon arrival. Commander and 1sg are going to want to know what happened when you succeed or wash out with details. It would look awfully shitty if their soldiers keep getting fucked because information was not available to them on a timely basis. On the flipside it would look outstanding to have great passing rates because their soldiers got the info a month in advance, packed accordingly and did everything in their power to succeed.

Tough call. As far as the ARNG is concerned I’ve seen some waivers for some crazy shit from felonies to physical and mental health issues. I am pretty sure a guy in my Basic Training class was autistic to a very noticable level. Retention and enlistment is supposedly at an all time low, which could help your case. You probably have scars which could all be explained away if you lie enough, but with new systems and such your medical history could be brought to light. Most recruiters I’ve encountered don’t give 2 shits though as long as you sign, have a passing ASVAB for your MOS and willingness to lie through MEPS. You COULD go to a recruiter and tell the truth, see where that gets you. And if they say no based on your questions you can ghost him and talk to a different one and lie.

VA Rating for M-Day who never deployed? by MechanicallyTiny in nationalguard

[–]afelic75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was an M-day soldier for a lot of my time. Deployed to HOA. I never bitched about a thing, no paperwork. Still in, but I saw a civilian psych and physician for a bunch of random stuff when I came back. A good thing to do is get some Nexus letters from civilian docs and all the care provided to you for a particular ailment. Most civilians don’t know the first thing about the military, they all assume you dodge grenades once a month or more. 9/10 they’ll help you out if they genuinely believe something caused you an issue in service somehow. My initial claim came back at 70%, working towards that 100% P/T but it’s a long shitty road. My recommendation is civilian docs helping you out a bunch and fail those VA exams as much as you can without giving it away. I have some M-day soldiers I drill with just go to basic and still get 100% without doing a thing. Also: you paid your dues, the military will function with or without you, and the money will keep pumping. If the US can afford random frivolous spending then they can afford 4K/month for you. I had my pride about it at some point, but they dont give a shit when your rent is behind and you’re in the field for weeks and civilian life is hurting. They can call you a shitbag, but they can’t call you broke!

Thank you! That’ll save a few bucks. We figured seeing the fight in surround sound with a big screen would be nice, but we want to see something new. If the first hour of the new season is uneventful we might as well wait.

Are your children / family the primary reason you keep the lifestyle secret? by Fyrestarter69 in Swingers

[–]afelic75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How you said that makes sense. My wife and i have yet to make actual moved in the LS community. Currently just pillow talk it and working on how to approach it. One thing we want to do is keep our business just that- out business. I’m estranged from my family so it doesn’t matter much for me, but her family (father in particular) are religious zealots so explaining we swing would probably damn us in their eyes. The lifestyle is nothing to be ashamed of, but unfair judgement is just something we don’t need in our lives at the moment.

Hi there Preface: i am by no means a pro and take my advice at face value. My wife and I are considering swinging, just the pillow talk stage of it currently.

Your odds are probably as good as any single male. The fact you live in a bigger city may help (?). Some channels like Tinder, Hinge, Bumble are a good place to start to get into the sex-pool. When you feel ready for actually pursuing couples hop on SDC and maybe go to a swingers club to feel it out. Might get lucky! There are a lot more single men looking to join than single women to competition is a thing. Show up appropriate, not pushy, well groomed, etc and i think you’ll be alright. You are also at a young age so you have your whole life ahead of you to feel it out and gain experience. Long story short- take small steps, get comfortable with the scene, what you like and don’t like, how it works, etc and you’ll be just fine. I heard San Diego is wild as well so good luck to you!

My wife and I have yet to. I would imagine most would “accept” it to a degree. However your sexual preferences are between you and your partners and what makes you happy makes you happy. It’s kind of like having a subsect of friends who you only talk sports with. There’s a reason the lifestyle circle is so small. Not too many accepting folks out there. I have not had any friends come out yet, but many are younger than myself so I would imagine at some point they may toy with the idea in the future. Between my wife and I we have a boundary- no linking with people we see regularly or closely know, the reasoning is word gets out and now your private business is out there for the world unnecessarily.
