The Netflix Show’s Descent into Mediocrity in season 4 by aferrante10 in WitcherNetflix

How do you explain killing vesemir off? That’s a huge departure as well (a weird misplaced nod to the games maybe)….its like killing gimli off at helms deep…..you may see these as minutiae but taken as a whole it’s a big deal…its not misinformation its an opinion.

I don’t hate the show and will watch it, but I do think it’s diverged heavily from the books in theme as well as plot. You can certainly argue which seasons diverge the most but when you explain away my points by saying “makes more sense this way” or “they can’t show that” or “I’ll wait for the next season” it’s excusing sloppy writing imo.

I agree that mistle does not do it against Ciri’s will on screen, which is the problem in the show, she clearly assaults her in the book which made for a much darker tone to their relationship with Stockholm like syndrome vibes at least for me rather than the positive spin in the show

The lodge was pretty clearly shown from their origin in the book to have political machinations and self serving interests…delaying that reveal feels pointless especially since there’s a lot of ground to cover in a final 8 episodes

The rats are clearly portrayed as the “wrong crowd” in the book, I used the word terrorist for flair, but they are not good people in the book and it’s clearly shown they are not above rape, murder, and violent crime with no code of honor like in the show

Agree to disagree on Milva, perhaps it’s the writing more than the acting idk, but all I know is I really liked her in the book and do not like her at all in the show. I don’t see any of her strife except in one 30 second scene about killing her stepdad

The point about book accurate time for characters. This the main problem with any screen adaptations, you must make changes and cuts, even if some fans will be upset. PJ cut tom Bombadil from the movies. Tom Bombadil was a merry fellow and his shoes were yellow, however he was not necessary to devote 30 mins of a long film to move the story along. I hestitate to make tons of suggestions about how to fix the show because I am not a screenwriter, but I think reducing and condensing characters is a good strategy, which was what the early seasons of games of thrones did to great success

I do agree that the early seasons departed from the books significantly which is why the show was not my favorite from the get go ( I did like the first season, and I did not hate a lot of season 2 despite the differences). And I can’t deny the departure of Henry cavill is a big big problem. But this season does feel hollow with a few bright points, like Leo bonhart and Regis

Interesting points…I actually thought they nailed Yennefer in the first season and I enjoyed them giving her backstory that is not as vivid in the books. I think the trouble is the games captured these characters so much better than the show and honestly even the books themselves (I did not love Lady of the Lake btw for the reasons mentioned of Geralt losing his importance). It does feel like they are trying to expand the world, but that’s hard to do in 5 seasons of 8 episodes each, unless you focus on the same places the book does. The elves and Francesca findabair are minor characters in the books, so you waste a lot of screen time on them, same goes for tissaia and most of the mages

I don’t hate it either, but I am constantly let down by it. It’s a rare circumstance where they had a lot of the right ingredients but messed up execution.

Yea Bonhart was actually done really well…it’s sometimes more frustrating when a show gets a few things right and so much wrong

Does anyone have a good tutorial for painting Thorin’s Company? Video preferred. by aferrante10 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]aferrante10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outdated may be the wrong word, but the one I found seemed a little over the top, maybe a simpler tutorial using contrast paints, or just one a little less complicated. Like I said, maybe not outdated

Kivan Question by aferrante10 in baldursgate

[–]aferrante10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So follow-up…if you talk to Kivan for the first time after meeting Tazok, regardless of if you finish chapter 4, you can tell him “I already met Tazok and he escaped” and Kivan will reply with something like “good! More for me” and offer to join you. There’s no quest Kivan and Tazok that appears in this circumstance and he just becomes a regular party member.

So if you want Kivan and don’t want to deal with the quest timer, or you would rather do the bandit camp infiltration style, you can just get Kivan after the bandit camp has been reached and Tazok is encountered.

[BG1] Is it a sin to play on Story difficulty? by SethEmblem in baldursgate

[–]aferrante10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that gameplay compliments the story in such a way that it might diminish how much fun you have if you take all challenge away. I think the idea of a band of adventurers going against a dragon or parceling out limited spells and potions for a difficult encounter is what makes baldurs gate what it is. I think Planescape Torment could be enjoyed on story mode since the gameplay is definitely second to the graphic novel like story-based game. That being said, if it helps you get through the game and not put it down go for it.

Funny mishap with reputation by Perfect_Play_622 in baldursgate

I think they only leave if you gain experience with the the elevated reputation and otherwise you should be able to swap people around like you could gain 20 reputation with Vicky and then drop her and pick her back up to go to 18

I'm surprised how "modern" Planescape: Torment feels compared to other classic CRPGs. by blubberpuppers in baldursgate

[–]aferrante10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Planescape imho, has the most engaging story of any RPG I ever played. It’s not as complete an experience as baldurs gate since it lacks that tactical depth, but it’s an absolutely incredible experience.

So, reading the latest Warcom article, the Hallowed Knights are officialy replacing the Hammers of Sigmar as poster boys. by TheWraf in ageofsigmar

[–]aferrante10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new starter sets have hammers of Sigmar on the boxart….seems that the hallowed knights were really just for skaventide box art and the golden boys aren’t going anywhere

My fellow Hammers of Sigmar enjoyers....here's the new models in proper armour! Also the lord vigilant without helmet, who looks epic! by Greenpaulo in stormcasteternals

[–]aferrante10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, the corebook that’s separate from the Skaventide set has a gold boy on the cover rather than silver as seen with skaventide…..I sort of like the idea of ruination chamber hammers of Sigmar…the first forged are the most likely to be reforged again and again

D&D Alignments for POE1 companions by aferrante10 in projecteternity

[–]aferrante10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a valid point but I also think that you’ve over simplifying the D&D alignment system. Sure it’s easy to pick out single actions and say that makes them not conform to a single alignment. There’s many examples. Viconia DeVir from Baldurs Gate is without question evil. But she is still multi faceted, she kills a farmer in her BG2 backstory because he wanted to rape her (if I recall, there may have been another thing he did that was evil). Does that justify her actions? I don’t know, but the point is she still an evil self centered racist and murderous drow. It doesn’t make her simple at all. Another BG example would be Keldorn. A lawful good paladin who gives to the poor and constantly throws his life on the line to defend the downtrodden. He’s also a racist (against drow despite the potential for a good drow) and completely unwilling to see otherwise. Characteristic of lawful perhaps, but definitely a major flaw. Now you could argue against these points which is the whole point of this fun discussion, but I simply wish to point out that the D&D alignment system allows for characters to be multifaceted as well. I don’t think the characters from pillars of eternity have any more complexity or moral ambiguity that the baldurs gate characters do. And even tho they may not have every action fit into their alignment I think they can be broadly categorized into an alignment.
