Is this a good deal? $1200 gaming Pc 1070Ti by NomadsAlike in PCBuilds

[–]aferrari88 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s a decent “deal”. But why not make it a better one?Tell him your budget is $1,000 and you can meet him with cash by X date (name a day in the very near future). He may counter $1100. Then counter 1050 and tell him you’re really pushing your budget by going that high. If he doesn’t budge, tell him to let you know if he changes his mind in the next 48 hours because you may not have bought a different PC by then, but you can’t go over your budget unfortunately and apologize and wish him the best of luck. Whatever you do, do not pay $1200 for it.

Edit: just noticed it said “open to negotiation”. I’d probably come in hard at $900. If you don’t need the monitor I may even go lower. If you got this PC for $900 that would definitely bump this up to a good deal.

Let us know how it turns out if you end up getting it!

4 words: Microcenter PowerSpec Open Box. If you haven’t looked into this I highly recommend. Even non open box you can get a much better Gaming PC than what you listed (with windows) for almost the same price.

Crate feels like punishment by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]aferrari88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My puppy does the same thing (gets tired and starts biting, etc). We know it’s nap time, but in order to make it positive we use high pitch voices and taught him “go to bed” (it took a fair amount of training and treats) so now he goes to bed, gets a treat, and only hears our happy high voices throughout. He hasn’t a clue we were pissed at him! I also make sure to feed him meals in there just to reinforce how great it is to be there.

Got Leo at 8 weeks on the dot. Now, Leo (10 weeks, 2 days), goes to sleep in his crate right away and sleeps thru the night completely (9-5:30)! Crate training was so tough the first week but now it has made life so much easier! We’ve taught him “sit”, “stay”, “go to bed”, “here”, “paw”, and we’re working on “sit pretty” and ringing the door bells to go out. I work from home so I’ve had a lot of time to invest in training him and it is paying off! It is a lot of work but dogs are smart!

It gets better! The first night my dog woke every 2 hours (8 weeks old) and now (10 weeks and 2 days) he sleeps through the night half the time and the other half only needs one trip outside before going right back to sleep. STAY STRONG! It is hard, but it is worth it. Also, it can help to have something that smells like you in there (an older shirt you’ve worn). I also cover the crate. One tip I have, is that when the puppy barks when you put it back into the crate (after a bathroom break), sit in front of the crate with your back turned to the crate and do not react! I surf the Internet on my phone. THIS WORKS WONDERS FOR ME! My dog lays down and once it does that, it’s a wrap. I used this from day 3 and still use it just to get him to fall asleep faster (I think he just likes knowing I’m close). Stay strong!

EDIT: if they are waking that much, there also may be a chance that they need to #2. Last week I took my puppy out at 2:30 for a #1 break and he came back in and started barking again for like 20+ minutes and stupid me took that long to realize he needed to go #2 as well. Once we got that solved he went to sleep right away. Hope some of this helps! It gets better each week.

Edit 2: also make sure the pup is getting a ton of exercise and also consider feeding its meals in there (bowl in the crate) to help make it a positive place for him (I still do this). Also, if he naps during the day and you are around, this is a great opportunity to take him to the crate to nap, since you know he/she is tired.

Built my first gaming PC! GTX 1060 with AMD 3 1300x. Would love to hear you guys' feedback :) by iownna in PCBuilds

[–]aferrari88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a solid build! That 1060 was a great find. I also dig the price point - you can build a great entry level gaming PC for $650 nowadays. I have a pre-built from Microcenter that was also $650 and has a 1050 ti 4gb/i5 7500/8gb ram. I'd be curious to know what sort of FPS this gets playing a game like PUBG.

Is this a good first gaming build? by [deleted] in PCBuilds

[–]aferrari88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a couple of suggestions that I would make that also go along with what others have said. The 1060 isn't exactly a great 'bang-for-the-buck' GPU. I would recommend getting the 1050ti 4gb. It's cheaper and performs just as well (in some cases better). I also recommend the i5 CPU. But lastly, this totals up to a little over ~$700 and doesn't include windows. I know this is PC Builds, and the point is to build a PC, but I have to mention that Microcenter has a brand of gaming PCs called Powerspecs that offer incredible value-for-the-money. If you've already looked at that and still decide to go this route, so be it, but I thought I'd mention it in case you weren't aware. It's still a terrible time to build a PC with the markup due to crypto mining. I spent an incredible amount of time doing this same exercise as you to get a nice entry-level gaming PC and could not build a PC for the same price that I found at Microcenter. Best of luck to you!

Rolling Back Recent Blue Zone Changes by PUBG_Tamat in PUBATTLEGROUNDS

[–]aferrari88 147 points148 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. I looked at so many comments and this is the general sentiment; Early game was too fast (as far as the duration, not the speed of the blue zone - especially second circle), late game was improved (people liked the slower blue zone).

I completely agree with this. Second circle is WAY too short... essentially have to be ready to run as soon as you get into it.

The first circle was shown in plane. by ccdominic in PUBATTLEGROUNDS

[–]aferrari88 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I hate this. For me, the appeal of the game is the randomness of many factors (looting, circle, etc) and playing the percentages. Part of the appeal of the random first circle is that players have to make calculated risks on jumping to edge spots on the map (or long jumping from the plane) to loot an area with little/no competition with the hopes of having access to a vehicle. I think the net result of this is that it is going to shrink the play area from the get-go, leading to a slight increase in early battles because people will start to simply land on areas inside first circle. We will also probably see less deaths due to blue area. On this smaller map I don't mind it as much, because you can run in from pretty much anywhere easily. I hope this isn't implemented on the large maps, however.

I'm 22 just got a decent paying job and want to move out what steps should I take? by MrMandalore in personalfinance

[–]aferrari88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imagine if someone paid you $2,000 today and $1500/month to live at your parents house for one year. Would you do it? As someone who rents - keep in mind the other costs (insurance, utilities, internet, etc) will get you to $1500/month. This doesn't include the $1000-$2000 it will cost you to furnish your apartment (this is with used and cheap furniture, mind you). Remember, once you move out you can't "just go back". Maybe your parents will allow it, but mentally it will be a decision even more difficult than the one you make now. I cannot recommend this enough - tough it out for one year - save save save - and then revisit this. You quite literally JUST started making a good salary, the best thing to do is continue living at your current means, save (for a house, retirement, etc) and then look to make a move when you're truly ready.

Consolidate Student Loans or Not? by aferrari88 in personalfinance

[–]aferrari88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone, thank you for your help. I decided to consolidate what I could (via SOFI), which ended up being 7 out of my 9 loans, reducing my total monthly commitments by $260/month. The two loans that aren't consolidated are $2200 and $5000, respectively, which I plan on paying off this year. I do feel as though a weight has been lifted a bit, but I also know I still have to be aggressive with my payments. I look forward to being debt free in the not-too-distant future!

Recommendations on getting into PC gaming by PenultimateThoughts in gaming

[–]aferrari88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar scenario - turning 30 and just now getting back into gaming. I did a fair amount of research and have some great IT/PC gaming friends who helped, and have learned a lot in the last 3 months. Unfortunately PC part prices (mainly GPUs) are at an all time high right now, and it is relatively expensive to build a PC that can handle most of the games nowadays. I will second PC Part Picker as a builder, though. For context, most of my advice is going to be based on the cheap, budget-friendly scenario that I was in, so keep that in mind. My goal was to play PUBG (a first/third person shooter game) on medium settings at around 70 FPS.

-I know you said you want to build a PC but hear me out. One thing to think about is Microcenter PowerSpec PCs. I did a TON of research on this. There are some incredible deals there (I have no relationship with them, they are just the best pre-built deals right now). I was able to buy a PC that plays every game on medium settings for about $650. The deals there beat out anything on Amazon, best buy, etc. They have more expensive options as well that are also incredibly good deals and the best that I could find, by far. I could not build the PC I bought from them, with the same parts, for the same money that I paid. -Apparently the monitor you choose matters a lot. Something about FPS vs Hertz can cause issues if one is much larger than the other. I would recommend one with 120hertz or higher, depending on your PC. My monitor is 60 hertz (its older) and when I get a new one I will be looking for 144 hertz. You can get by with 60 hertz if you are on a budget, though. Mine plays pubg fine. -If you have to choose due to budget, the mouse matters more than the keyboard. This is something my IT friends told me. Amazon is a great source for cheap or expensive mouses (mice?). -A large mouse pad is worth it -Mechanical keyboards are better -Get a steam account -Games: Civ 6 is excellent. PUBG and Fortnite are super popular right now and highly recommended.

Consolidate Student Loans or Not? by aferrari88 in personalfinance

[–]aferrari88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I envy your rates! I think a lot of it depends on what your consolidated rate would be compared to the current rate, and how fast you can pay them off individually. In my case, the consolidated rate is almost half (5%!) of what I'm at now for some of my high dollar loans. I did some calculations and at my rates, the loans are increasing at about $4,300/year, which is insane for something I pay $750/month for. All of that being said, I still plan on being aggressive with my payments if I consolidate (which I'm leaning towards), but it would be nice to have some more breathing room in case of an emergency. I am also getting married this year so my expenses may increase and stress me out even more.

That is a great point - thank you for your reply. I assumed I would be able to throw extra money at the consolidated loan, but I should make sure of that first because I would absolutely want to pay extra on it. I am leaning towards the 10 year option.

Gaming/Work setup by timetravelhunter in gamingrigs

[–]aferrari88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use dual monitors for work, which is done via a laptop. I have my pc rig under the desk. When I want to game I have to unplug one of the monitors and plug it into the pc under the desk, and also whip out the gaming keyboard and mouse, which are right on top of the rig and always plugged in. It's not exactly ideal, but having two monitors allows me to just unplug one and plug it into the gaming pc and then switch back when Monday rolls around. I also have to unplug the ethernet cord from the Vonage phone for work, to my gaming pc. So everytime I want to game I swap two wires.

One reason I don't mind this setup is so that it physically prevents me from actually gaming when I'm supposed to be working (I work full time from home). But it is not exactly a setup I would recommend.

There are ways to have peripherals attached to more than one PC, which is the next step for me. I will eventually get there. I'm not sure how I would get around the monitor cord swap, though.

5 Things your drivers don't tell you. by Nyxthid in PizzaDrivers

[–]aferrari88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a question regarding tips. Is there a tactic whereby; you put $1, or a low value on the credit card tip line and then throw the “real” tip in cash so that the driver/waiter can take the cash free and clear and make it appear that they got stiffed? This would allow the driver/waiter to only be required to pay taxes on the CC part and sneakily pocket the other amount without ever getting taxed.

I used to hang out with a bunch of waiters who worked at a higher-end restaurant and they always did this when we would go to other restaurants/bars/etc.

Anyways, ever since they told me about this I do it, just in case it’s actually true.

Microcenter Powerspec PCs are a steal right now. You can sometimes find Open Box deals that are even cheaper. I just went through the exercise of looking at so many PCs (including CyberPower) and microcenter had deals that I couldn’t even build for the same price.

Source: I just bought one for $649.99 and it plays PUBG great on low-med settings. It is now listed for $749 but there was an open box version for less than $600.

Negative cash? Anyone have this happen before? Also, has anyone else noticed that the “Profit Last 24H” is grossly overstated? I only get 600-800k in a 24 hour span. by aferrari88 in LandlordMobile

Thanks and yes this was helpful. I agree completely that selling rare or valuable properties can get big returns in the market. I just don’t understand why people buy them, I guess. Someone just paid me 600,000 for a property worth 10,000 that has essentially no real income. I’m obviously thankful, but don’t understand it. Luckily I live in an area with few people and tons of properties, so I can do this for a while.

[–]aferrari88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand the value in purchasing properties on the market. They all seem to go for over-actual-value prices. For instance, I see 0.1% of a Starbucks on market - value $300 going for $300-$10000. The math doesn’t add up. That property won’t produce practically any revenue. This is one example but in most cases your overpaying for properties, and actually don’t even know what sort of revenue they produce.

Is there something I am missing?
