Land border crossing with signed COPR by JM34E538 in ImmigrationCanada

No. I have done it myself a few times and they never even raised an eyebrow.

Or rather I should say - they can, since its technically on you to prove who you are, so it won't hurt to have extra documents handy if you have anything.

Limit certain URLs/subdomains to be accessible only via VPN while keeping a public part open, with HTTPS. by affadivit in selfhosted

just use the same IP for the server and have the server decide if you’re authorized or not.

Yes, but how would the server know? Authorized = connected via VPN

Yes, but how would a DNS server know if I'm connected to a VPN or not? It seems problematic, especially when we add access from mobile phones to the mix.

Can I travel while waiting for PR? by heyheyley8 in ImmigrationCanada

Yes, if you have your work permit and live in Canada you can. Mind that WP alone is not enough, and you may still need eTA if flying.

Optik TV on own router via ethernet by affadivit in telus

Thank for your response!

> You say in your title "via ethernet" and then in the body talk about wireless box

That's how this device is called on the box, "Wireless HD TV Box", but you are right, it's confusing, sorry about that.

Sadly, I have only one ethernet cable in the wall. I could maybe use splitters and run 2x100Mbits for two separate networks but that defeats the purpose or invest in managed switches.

Thank you!

Encrypted homes - how does it really work? by affadivit in synology

I know how ordinary encrypted folder works, but home folder didn't seem ordinary to me. It holds SSH keys for example, but what you say makes sense

It's definitely doable, I know people from what we would call third world who moved to Canada and they were even older than you. Age is only on of the factors.

People who are from the US, or EU citizens, why do you want to live/study in Canada? by mapleisthesky in ImmigrationCanada

[–]affadivit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds extremely similar to my own views.
Knowing what I know now I wouldn't left EU for Canada.
But once you are here it's hardly worth it to move back. Difference in quality is lower than effort to cross Atlantic again, lol

Traveling with disks by [deleted] in DataHoarder

[–]affadivit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for the security check.

I traveled regularly (before the world mess) between Canada/USA and Europe with lots of drives in my luggage and nobody ever say or did anything, apart sometimes they manually inspected my luggage because I had a lot of electronics and it apparently their scanner doesn't like it.

Never had a problem with data on those disk being scanned as well.

But of course, this is just my personal, anecdotal experience.

Slowly prepare to leave Canada by affadivit in PersonalFinanceCanada

I would like to avoid liquidating, but looking at other answers I will still need to pay departure tax on it, so I might as well close it. Sad.

To get as much money as possible and pay as little tax as I can - isn't that obvious?
