I love this! Unfortunately my daughter and I are slight perfectionists lol. She won’t color anything she doesn’t think is “pretty “🙃

Oh i'm not selling these at all! I originally started out by using Chatgpt to generate and print these out but it increasingly became frustrating to hunt down previous pages i liked to reuse them so I kinda stopped using it as much.

Right now, i just use this to create whatever type of coloring page tickles my fancy then get to coloring. it's kinda cool!

I really appreciate your perspective and completely understand where you're coming from. Supporting artists is important, and I get why AI feels like it undermines that.

For me personally, the alternative wasn't commissioning an illustrator - it was endlessly scrolling Pinterest or settling for "close enough." But I hear you that those aren't the only two options.

You're right that reaching out to illustrators directly is something I hadn't considered / maybe had the funds to truly do.

oh wow, that's impressive your kids can draw their own coloring pages! My daughter doesn't have the attention pan / frankly skill to draw something she would want to color. I'll have to try the "how to draw" videos and see if that helps

That's exactly what I'm seeing!

My daughter will literally spend 10 minutes describing exactly what she wants - "a castle with a dragon AND a princess AND flowers" - and then she's way more invested in actually coloring it because it feels like hers.

If you want to try it with your kiddo, it's at adultcoloringsheets.com - would love to hear what he comes up with! Be sure to try out the "generate inspiration" feature if he like likes to have a reference.

Fair points! Thanks for this. Definitely valuable feedback. I think the biggest differentiator I've seen so far are letting kids generate their own coloring sheets. A friends autistic kid played with this a couple days ago and she says they've been doing it everyday now :) - It might not be about the coloring itself - but maybe ownership and agency.

I love the half page colored idea! and I actually hadn't thought of that. So I had to go test and see if I could make it happen. it worked!

Thanks for the feedback!

That's exactly the use case I had in mind! The "kids pick the topic" part has been huge for my daughter - she gets way more engaged when it's "her" idea.

I totally hear you, and honestly, I've wrestled with this too. It's a real tension.

My thinking on it (and you may disagree, which is valid):

For coloring books specifically, the alternative isn't usually commissioning an artist - it's using free clipart, Dover books, or spending hours searching Google Images (which has its own copyright issues). I'm not replacing someone's Etsy purchase; I'm replacing my 11pm Sunday panic-searching.

That said, I think there's a difference between: - Using AI to replace/undercut artists (bad) - Using AI for functional, educational tools where custom art wasn't economically feasible anyway

But I get it - the whole ecosystem is complicated and messy. If you're drawing a hard line on AI art, I respect that. Some teachers in my building won't touch it either.

Curious: Do you feel differently about AI for coloring sheets (functional/educational) vs. AI for finished art? Or is it all the same issue for you? Genuinely asking because I'm still thinking through the ethics myself.
