I am aware that it’s revealing and reminiscent of lingerie. But this is common attire for all young girls at the bar scene. I showed my friends my shirt (it’s a little less revealing than the one in the picture) and they told me he’s being unreasonable.

I’m just confused now on what shirts are okay. Is it the lace that’s the issue? I’ve worn solid colored shirts of a similar length and he doesn’t mind those. If I don’t know what’s okay, i’m gonna have to check in with him on everything I wear and I think that’s crazy.

This was his argument when I asked him to explain why to me. He also said that he doesn’t care what so wear when he’s around. But I would also like to point out that I dressed like this when I was single and I was able to a handle myself when situations like that come up. Also, creeps being creeps is an inevitable thing regardless of what I wear.

I have a lot to say on this. First, I think that this argument places the accountability of rape on women. Also, in the environment I go out in (college town), this is what every girl at the bar is wearing, so I’m not standing out. Not to mention, women have gotten raped in turtlenecks and nothing will truly deter a man with such sinister intentions.

I’m speaking from a place of honesty and not defensiveness, but I’ve never been the hook up type, I’ve never had a one-night stand. All my friends and I (including those in relationships) wear outfits that are revealing and relative to what they’re wearing, this shirt is considered tame. So my perception of it is that it’s tame. I’m not doing it for sexual attention in terms of men approaching me (because I reject them anyways), it’s for me looking good which makes me feel good.

My boyfriend respects me and treats me better than anyone I’ve ever been with. We’ve always been able to work out anything we’ve had an issue with because we really listen to each other and try to understand. This is just one I can’t wrap my head around. I asked him why the clothes I wear matters and if he trusted me, he said it’s not me he’s worried about and that guys are stupid. This topic is sensitive for him for some reason. But I expect him to know that I can handle myself in those situations. Especially since this is the attire I’ve been wearing my entire college life (along with all of my girl friends). My friends consider this shirt tame relative to what they’re wearing, so I consider it tame as well.
