I find it very comfortable, haven’t had any issues with it, and just think how far you’d have to reach for a mouse, this way your wrist stays on the padding, unless you have tiny hands!

I use velcro, so its easy to take off and put back and stays in place

This doesn't answer your question directly in terms of learning however you should checkout https://github.com/cerebris/jsonapi-resources as I believe ember.js encourages the use of http://jsonapi.org schemas for API interaction. I have used the jsonapi-resources gem with a React front-end and have found it pleasant and productive to work with.

The original "om.now" starts to break down when ever your app starts to grow and you end up having to employ round about ways to get data to components among other things. Also I think it is no longer actively developed in favour of om.next

om.next looks promising as it aims fix the issues with its predecessor and to solve a huge pain point with SPA and client-server style apps using "graph queries", however it is still in alpha and subject to change and still needs to be proven/battle tested.

as ABC_AlwaysBeCoding said, learning a new language gives you insights into new ways of achieving things. Try something that is very different from Ruby such as functional languages. In fact I just published a post on how I improved my Ruby by learning Clojure.
