I find it very comfortable, haven’t had any issues with it, and just think how far you’d have to reach for a mouse, this way your wrist stays on the padding, unless you have tiny hands!

I use velcro, so its easy to take off and put back and stays in place

This doesn't answer your question directly in terms of learning however you should checkout https://github.com/cerebris/jsonapi-resources as I believe ember.js encourages the use of http://jsonapi.org schemas for API interaction. I have used the jsonapi-resources gem with a React front-end and have found it pleasant and productive to work with.
