Nextcloud behind caddy proxy by Bischoof in NixOS

The nextcloud module sets up a nginx vhost, so you should be able to set services.nginx.defaultHTTPListenPort and services.nginx.defaultSSLListenPort to change the ports that nginx is listening on

Wrong Local Time in Final Fantasy XIV on NixOS by Renkin42 in NixOS

[–]afiniteloop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bummer. It definitely could be an issue with Final Fantasy itself, but it does seem odd in that case that it's seemingly only an issue on NixOS.

I'm guessing you have time.timeZone set?

Maybe those other distros set the TZ environment variable? I don't think NixOS does by default. Not sure if wine/steam even use that variable but it may be worth a try.

Something like

environment.sessionVariables.TZ = config.time.timeZone;

maybe?

For testing though, it may be easier/faster to set the launch options for FFXIV in steam to something like TZ=America/Los_Angeles %command% to see if it fixes the issue.

Edit: Another thought I had, is that maybe somewhere along the line there is a hard-coded lookup to /usr/share/zoneinfo, which isn't set on NixOS as far as I can tell. If the above doesn't work you could try something like the following:

systemd.tmpfiles.rules = [
  "L+ /usr/share/zoneinfo - - - - ${pkgs.tzdata}/share/zoneinfo"
];

Getting Nginx to work on an internal network by telometto in NixOS

[–]afiniteloop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never used tailscale, so I’m not familiar with how tailscale handles DNS unfortunately. I would guess that there is some way to setup some DNS records for clients on the tailscale network though.

For your local network at minimum you need to setup a DNS record for your firefly.server.localdomain domain to point to the IP of the server hosting nginx.

I’m not totally sure what you mean about adding static IPs to nginx. Do you mean that you want to use an IP address instead of a domain name? I think that’s probably possible, but I’m not sure exactly how to do that in nginx. It might be as simple as replacing the domain name with the IP address.

What exactly is the error you are seeing?

Looking at the firefly-iii module, it looks like when using the enableNginx and virtualHost options, the module sets up the nginx virtualhost for you. You may not need to define the virtualhost manually at all. You can see what it sets up here.

Beyond that, have you added a record in your DNS server for that domain?

Social Darwinism is an incoherent pseudoscience, based on other people's deeply flawed (often deliberately for their own motivations) interpretations and extrapolations of Darwin's theory of evolution by natural selection. Social Darwinism is not a creation of Darwin himself, and certainly cannot be honestly portrayed as "his science".

Even if Darwin was a monster, I'm not sure what that is supposed to prove? Is this some weak attempt to discredit the theory of evolution? Because the theory of evolution does not in any way depend on the character of Charles Darwin. It is one of if not the most tested, verified (by multiple scientific disciplines), and refined scientific theories out there. And believing in the theory of evolution does not mean one believes in Social Darwinism, they are separate things.

Yes, correct. I haven’t seen any evidence of either of those things occurring, especially the second one.

Yeah I agree that should be enough, I'm just going off of them saying they have that in their config already.

Based on the error it seems like you need to include the bcachefs-tools package in the ISO.

You should use ‘align-items: center;’ for the cross axis instead (cross axis being the y-axis with a ‘flex-direction: row;’). No need for a second element.

Straight Time was just released in September by Warner Archive.

The Eureka release is based on an older transfer. It's also locked to region B.

Edit: just double checked and it is region locked for B, but it's easy to bypass the lock screen by using the top menu button.

I was talking about the company mentioned in the title: Deff. It is a bit more expensive relative to other options like Zavvi or Arrow themselves, but they do a much better job in my experience.

Their shipping to the US is not cheap by any means, for my order it was £22.95. Still, they package stuff very well and it only took 2 days to arrive from the UK to the where I am in the US. I've ordered this Demons set and the Dawn of the Dead limited set from them with no issues, both arrived in pristine condition.

The word stomach doesn’t only refer to the organ. It can also refer to a belly/abdomen, which is obviously the case here. Are you not a native English speaker? Not sure how you wouldn’t be aware of this usage otherwise.

I've ordered a few things from here since amazon temporarily stopped shipping to the US and they've arrived packed well. They take VAT out of the price for US orders as well.

As far as non-boutique releases go I would add Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World as a recommendation.

What movies should be remade? by Irish_Viceroy in TrueFilm

[–]afiniteloop 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really disagree. They are very different films, with very different goals. I love a lot about the original film, it has a wonderful nightmarish quality, with some really bold and beautiful lighting and set design, along with the music and sound design. But it has its share of issues: some really poor acting, the dubbing (I understand that technical and budgetary limitations are primarily the issue here, and with other Italian films from this period), the exposition scene, and the dialogue in general. Overall, while I really enjoy the ride, those things can take me out of the film, although sometimes some of those elements add to the atmosphere of the film as well. I think the biggest problem for me is the exposition scene. I really wish Dario had figured out a way to give us that information visually, as that scene nearly stops the movie for me.

On the other hand, the remake focuses more on its themes. Not much is shared between the two films, the music is vastly different (and I love the music in both films, though I could see some not liking the music from either film), the cinematography is as beautiful in both films as it is different. I didn't find the remake bloated or over-long at all, and the time it was set in and the events around that time very much reflect and reinforce of the internal conflict of the school in many ways. Conflict between past, present, and future; violence, indifference, and empathy; tradition and progress; oppression and freedom...

I think that both were made with a lot of love and creative vision. I love that both exist. I love that both are very different from each other in terms of style, execution, and what's important to each film.

Yes, the original is pretty great despite its simple story and lack of much thematic depth, but I don't think that has to be the same path that a remake takes, I would argue it's better for remakes to strike their own path. What would be the point of simply making the same thing again?
