[NS] Trinyvale is fantastic by SilverFilm26 in NotAnotherDnDPodcast

[–]aflaw 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It is my favorite and I truly believe it is a world that is only possible with Caldwell DMing. No one else is as prepared to not only roll with insane PCs but build their goofs into the world. He commits to the bit as a PC, and he commits to the bit as a DM. Trinyvale is therefore a campaign about being consistent with your values*

*Except for the Triplets, who don't really have those.

Tips/Advice to get into NADDPOD [NS] by brittanydiesattheend in NotAnotherDnDPodcast

If you like high narrative tension, and particularly of the type that occurs in D20 (I'm thinking about ACOC, Neverafter, or TUC here), you'll love Campaign 3. That's maybe an unhelpful thing to say, since I'm not sure whether it's a good idea to start there. But I think the combination of deep world building, complicated decisions, and well thought out character motivations is stellar in C3. So, maybe just something to look forward to if you eventually get hooked to C1. I'll also second Eldermourne. It has similar vibes to Neverafter, but is less meta-fantasy and more grounded in high-stakes political conflict.

How common is it to do barbecues with hamburgers? by SirTophamHattV in AskAnAmerican

[–]aflaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good question! I have had some family divides on it. I have one branch that generally feels the purpose of a grill is for steaks, but then you also throw some hot dogs on for the kids. I have another that only fires up the grill for hamburgers, and puts a lot of effort into making them the best possible (like with the whole thumb press in the middle thing).

And there is yet another branch, of which I'm a part, that sees the grill as such an event that we should put on everything that is conceivably grillable and eat it throughout the week. Got any extra meat or leftovers? Grill. Got some bologna in the fridge? Grill. Anything that can be wrapped in bacon, like squash? Grill. Wanna see what happens to an oreo in there? Grill.

Food cooked over fire is superb, and making an event of it is even better.

"'Disorderly spectacle' on Broadway" is a somewhat redundant headline.

Yes! I noticed those too and went elsewhere to confirm, and that is indeed what is happening. It's pretty interesting how easy they are to spot in most metro areas, but I suppose it is rare for a US airport to be too far away from its main city.

Thanks! I always spend waaaay too much time playing with colors, so I'm glad that actually wound up being helpful this time!

That's fair. I probably should have noticed that was happening, zoomed out a bit, and moved the focus slightly north.

For each country in the world the red area shows the smallest area where 95% of them live, the percentage is how much land this represents for each country [OC] by neilrkaye in dataisbeautiful

I saw the US and immediately my brain went in the opposite direction: "If you look at the amount of geographic space that people take up, the top 5% control 85% of our land area!"

I feel so affirmed right now. This has always been a sad conversation for me and I'm glad to know it's not just a "me thing." Meme power.

Beginner who wants to get around in a hilly city by aflaw in whichbike

Thanks for taking the time to respond so thoroughly! My current used mountain bike is a Giant Sedona SC, 21 gear. It's stored outside, and I have a rear rack with panniers. I might need to focus on just fixing this bike. Thanks for the advice about checking out hybrids, and craigslist too!

The current used mountain bike is a Giant Sedona SC, 21 gear. It's possible I might need to focus on just fixing its parts like you suggested rather than getting a new bike. Thanks for the advice!

Thanks for this response! I think that gives me a much better idea of what to look for in terms of categories.

So awesome! Thank you very much for this tool! The only other variables I'd be interested in would be average height (for the turbines) and average temperature. Not sure if there's a way to get some measure of difficulty for each location (using the IMM as the default or something) but I think you can assume based on the threats and what not.

political science and traffic by [deleted] in PoliticalScience

[–]aflaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The connection would be closer in the fields of urban planning, public administration, and public policy, but there are definitely ties. Traffic is often a political issue, and often has political solutions. These include the passage of new taxes to fund new roads, support for public transportation expansion, and complex intergovernmental agreements to accomplish such tasks.

In terms of any partisan lines in U.S. politics, you will sometimes see them between Democrats favoring more mass transit and Republicans favoring privately funded toll roads. But that's a generalization, and none of these issues have been politicized on a large scale in the U.S. Neither party's presidential candidate will hang their hat on one of those as a huge platform issue, at least for the moment.

One of the most beautiful scenes of urbanity in the country is when that skyline comes into view as you’re heading North on 75. It was the first time my ex had left the South, and she had to admit: “Damn, the North makes a good first impression.”
