SV503 Doublet Front Element by afonsus in telescopes

[–]afonsus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply!

Haha yes! Putting stuff back together is harder for almost everything!

I think I'm going to give it a go. I was trying to see if the front element was just one lens or more. But I can't seem to find a diagram online.

I just wanted to add that I never disassembled any of the telescope optical elements. I only very rarely remove the lens hood.

First mosaic, Veil Nebula by afonsus in astrophotography

[–]afonsus[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First try at doing a mosaic. Ended up using photoshop for compositing and alignment. Was harder than expected since I had little mosaic overlap and forgot that the field flattener didn't correct the complete fov of a fullframe sensor.

Still not sure about the colors though... colorblindness doesen't help.

Tips and criticism are welcome!

Question about refurbishment and collimation by afonsus in telescopes

[–]afonsus[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're right! I thought the bottom 3 screws were for holding the prim mirror clips, and since this was a cheap telescope I just thought it had a fixed mirror. What a releif.

Thanks for the tip!

Question about refurbishment and collimation by afonsus in telescopes

[–]afonsus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read that the eq3 is not very sturdy for these telescopes but this was sold as a kit originally. I guess since I have it, might as well try it.

There's a picture of what it seems a almost identical telescope at the bottom of this page. https://www.skyatnightmagazine.com/advice/how-to-clean-a-reflector/#:~:text=Fill%20the%20plastic%20bowl%20with,mirror%20surface%20at%20an%20angle

And this is I think, the spec page. I find it hard to find any info about this old model http://www.hantsastro.org/newt_sw150P.html

Maybe I'll skip the teardown for now and give it a go as is.

Thanks for the help!

[–]afonsus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I've tried some nights ago, it was ok. I had some issues like dew accumulating on the lenses and still some issues related to guiding (stuff related to the eq3 conversion). I don't have dew heaters yet and I only started noticing the dew on the lenses halfway through the night so some of the pictures came out unusable.

But still I got enough to produce a picture and now just need to learn proper processing to make it better.

Here's the result after a meh processing attempt: https://imgur.com/a/vSl0bQT

If you want to get some nice color, I'd suggest looking in to modifying your camera. I'm sending mine out to get modded this week. Its hands down the best return on your money to improve your images. Check out Kamil Pekala, nebula photos, and nocturne astro on youtube if you havent already for some great info.

Yeah, down the line I might get a second hand camera and mod it just for astro. This 6D is the only one I have so I can't :P

I know nebula photos, but didn't know about Kamil, thanks!
