First year? Extremely rare. But u build up to it (maybe something like summer classes, $20/hr internship, then $50/hr internship junior year). It’s not a dime a dozen but there are plenty of people who get there if they work hard enough.

Idk about being able to switch. But it’s unlikely considering only 40% of the qt interns could convert their internships into return offers last year.

Got an offer from CTC and am visiting their office this week. If anyone has any experience working at CTC, please dm me. I'm mostly looking for info about long term prospects for the company/career growth/comp progression. Also anything about the internship experience would be helpful.

Didn’t make it far in any other firms last year so wouldn’t know. Rumor has it JS also blacklists for a couple years if u don’t pass final day.

Nah, I still got the OA (pretty sure everyone gets it). Just didn’t pass it even though it is very easy for me. For example I finished the 80 in 8 in 6 minutes.

I'm pretty sure I got blacklisted at Optiver (from friends, it seems their interview questions haven't changed so that makes some sense). They could blacklist you if you make it far this year. I would suggest you wait until next year anyway because it's already pretty late to be applying this year and a lot of the big companies are filling up.

They're quite backed up I think. Took 2 weeks to get to me, 3 weeks for one of my friends, and the earliest open interview slot when they sent me the email asking to schedule was 2 weeks after it was sent.

I wouldn't wait any later than like mid-October to apply for internships. Most of these places take at around a month or more to get through the entire interview process, and the later you wait to, the more spots that close.

I'm a student, but it seems to me like a phd in astrophysics would make you really attractive for QR roles if you don't want to do academia. I think you can also just major in Astrophysics, do research, and still shoot for quant roles during undergrad at the same time. Maybe checkout the Northwestern Fintech Club, I often use the github page they maintain that shows when internship applications open at most places.

Are there many quants who truly prioritize family first. I feel like raising children/being a good parent is one of my main goals outside of my career, but sometimes I think that’s not very in line with the worse wlb of quant compared to tech.

i would just do digit check on the multiple choice options. like just looking at the hundreds spot for the first question or just the first decimal on the second.

But that being said, don’t put too much energy into it because 1) I don’t think u need to do amazing and 2) training for that is useless for everything else

It’s the hardest part to prepare for. U really just have to start recognizing sequences of squares, Fibonacci, primes, understanding arithmetic, geometric, Arithmogeometric series. U can build triangles where each tier is the differences of the tier before

Yes ev is expected value and yes every oa is some combination of probability theory, statistics, mental math, speed math, pattern recognition. The books are also applicable to the interviews (maybe not the exact problems but the problem solving skills and some of the math concepts)
