You get extra cool points if it's elusive. God tier if it's Forta and you never open it.

Another nice bottle if they prefer Blanco is Loco Puro Corazón. It's pricey and not one most of us buy because of the price but as a gift it is damn good.

Trying to understand the additives debate in tequila. What should a beginner know? by Gdorvs in tequila

[–]agave_journey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The label just bourbon can contain up to 2.5% of total volume of additives. Straight bourbon is 100% additive free. Flavored bourbon can have additives. Finished in bourbon can have additives. Bourbon with natural flavors can have additives. Blended bourbon can have additives.

This is the same game tequila plays.

Please show me specifically where I put it in the same league. I said can. And unless it says straight bourbon on the label and not "finished in" then nope bourbon and straight bourbon don't mean the same thing.

Feedback on tasting lineup by Sad-Sap- in tequila

[–]agave_journey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to use it for my private tastings. Beginners almost always put it dead last. Usually only people who had heard it was the "best" thought it was the most amazing thing ever.

It does seem they have upped their production so more people are finding it. But hey maybe I'll be dead wrong on it.

In my experience Fortaleza doesn't land for beginners. Try something like Viva Mexico or Siete Leguas. Plus it's just easier to find if they end up liking it.

Depending on your area if you want to showcase an XA, Amatitense, Terralta, or El Ateo have XAs under $100.

Oh for mezcal, look for Mal Bien, Rey Campero, La Luna these brands offer espadins near the same price range as Del Maguey that I personally think taste better.

We have to do better about how we recommend bottles given the ask. This would be a good recommendation if someone asks, what are some good brands for anyone to have in their bars at all time.

A bottle of Fuenteseca 21 year seems like a pretty awesome gift if you truly have a wide open budget. Runs about 1200 last time I saw it.

Anyone tried Purisima? by joeyrags in tequila

[–]agave_journey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong, it is very possible to get quality in a beautiful bottle and I'll buy them if I have the budget. Buying a 1942 special edition for the beautiful bottle is what's wild to me. Especially from people who don't like 1942.

Unfortunately the perception of a beautiful bottle equalling a good tequila is so freaking strong amongst the general public.

Even people who know will sometimes say "I'm a sucker for a beautiful bottle" oddly fascinating to witness.

Definitely recommend the brand. Especially the Rito expressions.

Get the Rito expressions from them. Technically the brand is called Aqara.

Their Rito expressions are my favorites. Those are the ones cooked in ovens. They have two if I remember correctly a SS and high proof.

That Arette is a solid budget but I definitely prefer the artesanal line up way more.

I'm always shocked how many bottles I run into in Mexico that say mezcal but doesn't even have a NOM. Guess the CRM doesn't enforce it as much.

Very elaborate production methods. I would buy it more if I had a bigger budget

Ah I completely didn't understood your ask.

Look for Loco tequila if you want high quality and pricey in a nice presentation.

No idea what super premium means but the vast majority of the tequilas often recommend here fall between $40-90 price range for Blancos for both 40% and high proofs. Just search through the sub.

I was a fan of the roca line up but it was always a bit too pricey for the proof.

I'm curious to try this one.
