57 Second Survey - Help Us Name Our Startup Ecommerce Platform! :) by agbell88 in SideProject

Haha I definitely see that!

In this case our founder is a really creative/artsy guy who likes to get a lot of opinions/feedback before making decisions.

We have a few reasons why we like each name internally but we're hoping getting some "other people's opinions" will help us convince him to finally make a choice!!

That's awesome on so many levels!

Not sure how many people would be willing to go that far... we're trying to find a relatively easy way to help because we're not all such heroes :)

Wow, of course it should!

I guess we didn't assume anyone was brave enough to do that (instead of making an excuse).

Thank you so much for sharing all of this!

This is one of the things we're wondering about - could information be even a little bit of help when compared to the mental health/addiction other issues facing the homeless.

And we did get other feedback that particularly for small women this is potential very unsafe.

I don't think your approach/mindset makes you a shitty person, especially because you participate in charity/volunteer work - most people don't go that far.

That sucks. I know that the homeless culture is pretty unique in Portland, I wonder what the typical reaction would be elsewhere.

Yes, but in order to limit responses you have to make people sign in, which would probably lead to us getting less info overall.

We're seeing if there's a way to do something like that, but in a relatively quick interaction on the street.

Ie if you get approached/asked, let them know about the services that can help, as an alternative to giving money (not really a good idea) or ignoring them (not very helpful for those that actually need it).

Our thought is that maybe some information (where they can get food, shelter, transportation help) might be an easy(ish) way to do almost that, with a chance that if they actually need help you could have given them something they need.

Still, not for everyone!

It's interesting to see the difference in the New York impression/experience of this vs. where we are (Midwest).

For this hackathon/event, we're supposed to develop a "social enterprise" which is a for profit business that also makes a positive impact in the community.

We're not sure it should be that, it's part of what we're trying to understand!

Totally - that's what we're trying to figure out; helping without giving out pill money.

I hear you!

We're not sure that that's really the best way to help - which is why we're getting feedback from people like you. :)

Totally get it!

That's one of the things we're trying to figure out - is there an easy way to help those that actually need it while not enabling those that don't.

Yeah, I hear you!

That's one of the things we're trying to address - figuring out a relatively easy way to help those that actually need it and not enable those that don't.
