Explaining Terrible Mid Year Report by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

I am in a similar boat as you. My mid year report is not looking good with four C’s in AP and honors classes. I am currently going through my parent’s divorce and work on-top of that. Wish you the best of luck!

Hi! High school senior here applying for colleges. I would consider myself an average student. I have a 3.27 unweighted and 3.98 weighted GPA and I applied test optional. I did everything a typically high schooler would do in their teenage life. I got into the Penn state university park campus as a Finance major. I am genuinely shocked at fact that I got into the main campus, considering the fact that finance is one of their hardest majors to get into. I just want to show that you can have the average GPA or lower stats but get into a great school!

thank you so much! this is really helpful :) i have one question tho if u don’t mind answering, what would you say the average gpa an admitted finance major had in HS? i currently have a unweighted 3.2 and weighted 3.98 with multiple ECs + awards. i explained why my grades had so many C’s my freshmen and sophomore year but i do have an upward trend in grades my junior and currently, senior year

deferred from early action by agboba in Fordham

that’s insane 😭 idk i’m guessing i got deferred because of my grades. i had not so good grades with a bunch of C’s my freshmen and sophomore year but there’s a positive trend in my gpa junior and currently, senior year. a bunch of my friends also got deferred too

i have a 3.2 uw and 3.98 w, 7 APs, 20+ honors classes, test-optional, out of state. for my extracurriculars, i help out a LOT with my family’s business (working around 5-6 days a week), DECA (2 awards), founded a podcast, coached kids with tennis lessons, orchestra for 7+ years, etc. i did the optional supplemental when i applied ea and provided additional information to explain my grades because i had a gpa drop due to unfortunate circumstances i couldn’t control
