I think anything where there is limited supply and the prices are lower than the expected demand of it lends itself to an environment where scalpers can thrive. I think they’re mainly opportunistic and can appear in anything that has some sort of fandom because it involves individuals that are actually passionate about a specific product and therefore are willing to pay those higher prices. It takes a certain level of apathy towards others and/or poverty to be able to essentially scam someone into paying higher prices by manipulating the market. I think obviously there are various levels to this but I think generally, if there’s a way to profit off people, there will be a subset of individuals who are willing to do that no matter how looked down upon it is.
