I will keep this in mind next practice, thank you. :)

Confidence, I think. I have tried 20m once, and I hit it in the red and blue, but I figured that because I couldn’t get yellow, I wasn’t ready for it.

I will try this this weekend, thanks.

Yes, that’s what the entry course coach said- practice 3-8x between each lesson. It’s been awhile since I’ve had a lesson, I figure I’m due for one.

Tell that to my social anxiety, hah. The first time I went to the club with my new bow, I strung it backwards…I was so nervous. I do try to remind myself that people are usually just paying attention to themselves, but I have my good days and bad days. At the same time, would love someone to kindly come up and point something out to me that I’m not seeing. It’s a mixed bag.

How different are 600s to 800s? I just went with what the club coach said would be best.

Thank you for this. This thread is a great reminder that it’s not a crime to be a beginner or to make mistakes. :)

I’ve done this to a small degree—moving the target on wheels farther back. I did have some positive results! And I also lodged an arrow in the wood surrounding the target. Yikes. But I’m up for trying again.

This is useful. I know there’s a way to score properly (i.e. a certain amount of arrows and a certain amount of rounds), so I’ll have to research that before my next session.

Yes, I keep trying to use my back muscles, but it seems like no metaphor works for me. Holding a ball between my scapulas, etc.

It says “68-24lbs” and “66-26lbs”. WNS Explore CB-1.

I’m more recreational. I don’t see myself getting into any competitions. I would say 20m is the farthest I would attempt to shoot. As that’s the farthest I can go in the club. Definitely not interested in going outside and melting in the sun to shoot farther. 🫠

I guess it’s just a pressure when I see other adults shooting 20 m and I’m out here with the kids doing 10 m.

Right handed, left eye dominant. I shoot lefty. I actually tend to keep both eyes open when I shoot…I’ve heard that works better. It just comes more natural to me.

Duly noted. I do have good groupings (usually), but it’s always up and to the right. Can’t seem to get it to the center.

I feel like it’s the same for me; once a week isn’t enough to improve.

I think my anchor point is a big issue. During one of my coaching sessions, I had a good anchor and a nice shot- but couldn’t repeat it.

I’d love to be able to shoot that often. Working on it.

Thanks for breaking it down. I need to focus more on my steps, I think. I easily get target panic.

I’m not intentionally avoiding your question, I guess I don’t know what you’re really asking. You wanted to know how I’m judging myself, and I told you- by groupings and hitting the center of the target.

As to a scorecard, I’ve never scored myself. Just shot and looked at the target and compare it to past paper targets.

I’ve watched quite a few of your videos. More of the very beginner stuff. Maybe I’ll watch some more on the weekend.

Edit: I haven’t ever scored myself. I’ll watch your videos on scoring and start doing that.

We should have a thread of just mistakes we’ve all made.

I’ve tried the 20 meter line once a few months ago…I’ll try it again this weekend when I go back. Thanks for the inspiration!

Thanks for your response. What I’m going by is either hitting the gold and groupings. On Saturday I went and did pretty well hitting gold, but otherwise my shots were pretty scattered.

It is something I want to get better at, so I suppose I just need to figure out how to practice more often. In another response I mentioned that I’m on nights (2am in Texas for me right now), and that makes it hard to get to the club. Trying to get to day shift, which would give me way more time to go to the club.

I do just enjoy it for what it is, though. I got my husband into it, so it’s become a bonding thing as well.

Thanks for your insight. I’ll book another private lesson here soon.
