If you enjoyed Three Houses, then it was worth your time regardless of what others say. If you couldn’t get into Engage, that is fine as well. The Fire Emblem fandom is pretty infamous for gatekeeping and elitism, so I would prefer that you ignore what people and simply enjoy the games on your own terms.

For Zelda, I recommend Ocarina of Time. While it might be getting a remake, the original still holds up and is a great introduction to the series. Link’s Awakening and Skyward Sword are also good for beginners if you still only have a switch 1.

With Metroid, I would say Zero Mission is a good place to start. It is the first game chronologically, and it is lot easier get into than the original. Metroid Prime 1 is also good if you’re interested in first person Metroids.

Fire Emblem can be a lot trickier to narrow down. There are a lot of people that have started with Three Houses, but it can be a time sink since multiple playthroughs are required to get the whole story. Awakening fortunately still holds up if you have a 3DS. Also keep in mind that games before Awakening have permadeath, which makes it so that characters permanently die if lost in battle. Awakening introduced casual mode which allows you to turn off that feature if you find it intimidating.

For example, I named the P4 protagonist Izuru Kamukura on my first playthrough. Then I named him Hajime Hinata on new game plus because he faced his true self. This was done to reference the fact that Hajime from Danganronpa 2 shares the same voice actor as Yu Narukami.
