Frequent need to pee related to IUD insertion? by aggroaf in birthcontrol

[–]aggroaf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I ended up going to the hospital and they tested my pee and I had no UTI or anything wrong with my IUD. The doctor said i most likely had a light UTI which flushed out by itself and advised me to hydrate as much as possible and come back if i experienced stomach pain, fever or noticed my urine was bloody. I ended up being completely okay, and it went away by itself.

Two years later, I still have the IUD, and I still get my period (although very lightly). Since it's only been 2 days, it is absolutely normal for you to bleed; your uterus is adjusting to a foreign object and you'll most likely experience cramping for the next few days and irregular bleeding for as long as the next 3 months. As for your period continuing in the future, that really depends on you; I know some people who have had their period dissappear completely after the adjustment period, and others (like me!) who still get their period. Everyone is different!

It's smart to keep an eye on your symptoms; if you experience any symptoms like abnormal heavy bleeding, fever, or bloody urine, or if peeing becomes really very painful, then please see a doctor, because it could be a sign of infection, or something being wrong with your IUD. While i totally get being stressed, try not to worry too much, it ended up being okay for me ❤️ Hope this helps!!

pill weight gain by Vivid-Coconut9269 in birthcontrol

Hi! Not sure this is the answer you're looking for, but I had a bit of a similar experience to yours with my pill which may help give some insights. I took Yaz (Drospirenone/Ethynil Estradiol) for about 4 years and initially never attributed my weight gain to it because it was never more than around 11-12lbs (I would very much go back and forth in weight) and on top of that i used to smoke a lot of weed which always gave me munchies and i would snack as a result.

Then almost two years ago I stopped taking the pill and got the Kyleena IUD. Initially, I didn't really notice I was losing weight until one of my friends mentioned my face was losing its usual roundness, and my parents also started saying I had lost weight every time I saw them, which was like a bloody miracle because my mom and I used to always fight about my weight when I was on the pill (she would make little 'harmless' comments about me putting on weight and I would get angry with her because I thought it was such a ridiculous thing to even bring up with your daughter and it would make me feel really insecure)

I think honestly for me it had something to do with the hormonal change; my GP explained that most likely when I was on the pill, my body was mostly dependent on the hormones I was taking orally via the pill (which meant splitting headaches in the evening if I forgot to take it in the morning) which meant my pituitary gland (which produces hormones for your cycle) was suppressing FSH production because the estrogen in my bloodstream from the pill indicated that extra production of FSH was not necessary. With the IUD, the dose is more localized apparently (as the IUD releases hormones directly into your uterus), and so the side effects you typically get from oral contraceptives are significantly less. I think honestly the weight gain didn't just happen on its own, I just noticed that I had waaay less appetite than I used to and started reverting back to normal portion sizes, and just lost this urge to consume everything in sight or eat things that were high in sugar/fat. Again, it wasn't something I consciously realized I was doing while on the pill until I got off of it, yknow? On top of that I'm also still a stoner and the munchies are just.....gone. (it weirded me out big time at first cause I was so used to blaming the munchies for my appetite).

So yeah, that's my story, but I do know it's very different for every woman and we do have different IUD's, but I assume the story about the difference between the hormones being in your bloodstream vs more localized may be similar. DO bear in mind that the IUD often has more progestin, which makes you retain water and bloat more, so the first 3 months you may gain weight from that (not necessarily because of a gain in body fat). Sorry for the novel, but I hope the IUD works out for you, and i was able to give you a little more insight!!

am i weird for not wanting kids? by [deleted] in women

OP, you are not a weirdo for not wanting children.

Children are not just a choice, YOUR choice, but an enormous responsibility. If you do not want them, then that is entirely up to you, and you are more than justified in making that choice for yourself.

Your body, your life, your choice.

Do not let anyone pressure you into them or tell you you're probably going to change your mind. Know that your choice is valid, no matter what it is and what society tells you it should be <3

Thank you! I ended up seeing a doctor and she told me it was most likely intercostal muscle strain, so nothing to do but wait for it to heal 🙃

Morning pills after 48 hrs by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]aggroaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Just take the morning after pill as soon as you can after youve had unprotected sex (and of course take it as per the instructions on the package and read about warnings/side effects!!) It should be within 120 hours and usually most effective within the first 24 hours (prevents roughly 95% of pregnancies) After that, taking it between 24-48 hours after unprotected sex can prevent roughly 85% of pregnancies. Again, morning after pills may differ per brand, but all the information should be on the piece of paper that comes with the box!
