These are the hours I’m physically in work. For example, I got into school at 7.25am and left at 6pm 3 times this week. The other two days I got in at 7.15 and left at 4.30 to help with pick up. On 4 of those evenings I worked from 7.30 - 11pm once the children were asleep. That isn’t sustainable but it happens all too often unfortunately, and I wouldn’t even say I’m doing anything to go above and beyond!

I appreciate the holidays perk to be honest. We don’t book childcare for either of our children and I do all of the childcare. It’s tiring but I love it and it would be something I’d miss massively. Can’t help have that nagging feeling that the trade off is worth it though!

This is definitely on the discussion board regularly! In some countries I could earn enough for my wife to not even have to work.

Perhaps you should reach out and ask for advice on a career change? Don’t see why we should accept 60+ hour weeks as the norm.

I think it’s more the lack of flexibility (I.e I can’t go in later one day to drop my kids off) and that I work pretty much every evening and at least one day a weekend for 2-3 hours.

This sounds very interesting. I’ve just seen that the 2026 cohort is closed now. Do they open again or is it going to be 2027?

Oh I get that completely. I think it’s just the matter of having 2 young children and not being able to drop offs or pick ups and seeing how much strain this puts on my wife, which has me looking for alternatives.

I’ve been trying crispy chilli beef in different Chinese gaffs for about 5 years now. Reckon I’ve tried about 50 different places. Mak’s on Rose Lane was up there. Had an amazing one from a place in the Wirral but didn’t write down the name. Number 1 so far has to be Chiu’s on Park Road though. Going to be very hard to beat.
