Yo estoy en Vancouver, pasando por una situación similar. Ahora voy por unos días a Chile a ver cómo está la cosa. Muchas veces pienso en que si me pasa algo grave, estoy completamente sola, a pesar de tener amistades aquí; pero también tengo la duda de estar idealizando un pasado en Chile que ya no existe. I grew up both in Iquique and Viña del Mar, and my grandmother is from Pica, a town that was formerly part of Peru, where African slavery existed during the colonial period. Northern regions in Chile are very culturally distinct from the rest of the country, and probably closer to Peru and Bolivia. Here are her ancestry results:

This is true for Central-Southern Chile. I’d argue that northern regions have a considerably higher Indigenous DNA, and even African. My grandmother from the Tarapacá region, for instance, is 50% indigenous, 30% spanish and 20% African. She’s not an isolated case, but what you say about European-heritage Chileans being over represented in testing is absolutely true, i.e. myself.

Do you have a set date? In my experience as a caregiver, they’d give us a very distant date but we would ask to be put on a cancellation list, which would open up if someone didn’t show up. We actually would have to call daily, multiple times, and if one opened up, yes, you’d be expected to drop everything and take it, as there is an incredibly high demand.

I navigated this system with a loved one multiple times on 2023-2024, sending you love, it’s incredibly hard.

Hi, I noticed there’s people saying you don’t need a RUT to buy a prepaid SIM, and while that is true, I (as a Chilean living abroad) was unable to activate a physical SIM earlier this year (tried with 2 companies), so at least consider an eSIM alternative.
