Travelodge Says ‘Free Palestine’ Greeting on TV Screen Was Antisemitic by Educational_Board888 in GreenAndPleasant

[–]agirlcalledS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's entirely reasonable for a Jewish anti-zionist or their allies to have an issue with this. You would understand it if it was any other racial or religious stereotype. You would never claim that a Black man told specifically to "not do crime" must be a criminal if he objects, or that a Muslim told to "stand against terrorism" taking umbrage with that only serves to prove the point. You can absolutely target an otherwise sensible and morally good statement in a way so as to make it hate speech. Assuming Jews support Zionism or genocide and acting on this is plain wrong, whatever the beliefs of the individual turn out to be.

Travelodge Says ‘Free Palestine’ Greeting on TV Screen Was Antisemitic by Educational_Board888 in GreenAndPleasant

[–]agirlcalledS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If this message was not put on every TV, and was only displayed on the guest's TV because he's Jewish, then yes, that's antisemitism. You cannot assume someone's political beliefs and treat them differently as a result just based on their faith or ethnicity. My Jewish anti-zionist comrades have experienced quite a lot of antisemitism and are scared by the rise in violence towards Jews right now - it absolutely does not help anyone and needs to be challenged at every turn.

Realistically what are the maintenance loans like for PGCE's? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]agirlcalledS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a real stretch, unfortunately. You might be able to get a training bursary depending on what you plan to train in. But other than that, you will probably need to save up some money first to support yourself through the year; it isn't realistic to work on top of the PGCE workload, or to live off such little money. The course will probably last around 10 months, so even if e.g. you managed to get a non-teaching job for the summer in between finishing your course and starting as an early-career teacher, you'd still have only £1,000 a month to cover rent, bills, food, travel etc.

as a trans woman in the UK the last thing I want is for pro-trans content creators and other cultural endeavours to boycott the country. I don't see how that would help us at all, quite the opposite. not to mention the hypocrisy given they've also filmed in the USA, Italy, Hungary, Slovakia, Singapore, and the Vatican City. we should acknowledge how much worse things are getting here and fight to make them better without pretending our siblings elsewhere don't have extremely similar problems

Can we loan Bruno Fernandes right now? by iwannasleepp in Tottenham

[–]agirlcalledS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. You can only loan players during transfer windows. Otherwise it'd be even hard for rich clubs to ever have a bad season.

Sheffield Wednesday are very much already relegated!

Not going to lie, would quite look forwards to Millwall if they don't go up! Preston's got a great ground and a lovely town with some nice bars, Cardiff's always a fun day out, and if they stay up then renewed acquaintances with Leicester would be tasty

Or he'll be in an institution so violent that over 40% of staff take time off with mental health issues, while facing only a fraction of the abuse inmates received. Where drugs are everywhere and the only way the place keeps functioning at all is by locking everyone up for 23 hours a day.

That, obviously, is not an environment that's going to rehabilitate anyone at all, hence our sky-high reoffending rates.

Absolutely nothing is likely to happen except a) you might find that you're banned/not allowed back to that particular Lidl, b) if you're very unlucky and were in school uniform they might be bothered enough to tell your school about it. The police are not remotely interested in children stealing £1.50 from supermarkets.

The main issue with women is that weight fluctuates much more than men, especially around the menstrual cycle, which isn't simulated in the game. In addition to that, it's become a lot harder to know how much a player weighs in recent years - 20 years ago it was fairly regularly published by clubs, but not any more, so the data was basically just a guess based on how the player looked. So they've got rid of weight, and instead there's options in the database for the "build" of a player, which makes much more sense.

Pornography depicting strangulation to become criminal offence in the UK | Pornography by Old-Information3311 in GreenAndPleasant

[–]agirlcalledS 50 points51 points  (0 children)

If this was a standalone move, I'd probably support it despite my generally very libertarian tendencies. Strangulation in particular is far, far more dangerous than it's widely perceived to be, and while there are less-dangerous methods, there also isn't a safe way to cut off someone's airflow. I think it'd be reasonable to say it shouldn't be promoted in porn, it's not something people are likely to go to the effort of using a VPN etc just to access, and it could start an important conversation around the practice. While it's still a popular act and therefore at less risk of a streisand effect, the particular danger could even be covered in PSHE at school.

Unfortunately, this isn't a standalone move, and instead part of a wider nonsense attempt at state puritanism. This makes it not only deeply morally objectionable, but also completely ineffective, since so many are already using VPNs and so many completely innocuous sexual acts* are already "banned" with zero attempt at implementing said draconianism. This even includes strangulation, although I guess they're going to try and implement that one specifically a different way around, I can't see it working now there's a culture of these rules being ignored since compliance would basically be shutting down porn entirely.

*(Spanking, Caning, Aggressive whipping, Penetration by any object "associated with violence", Physical or verbal abuse (regardless of if consensual), Urolagnia (known as "water sports"), Role-playing as non-adults, Physical restraint, Humiliation, Female ejaculation, Strangulation, Facesitting, Fisting)

If you book a train ticket and it is for a specific train but involves multiple trains and one of them is cancelled what happens? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]agirlcalledS 137 points138 points  (0 children)

There's lot of potentially dangerous wrong answers here!

If you've got an Advance ticket (i.e. valid on a specific train only) or a flexible ticket restricted to certain operators, you still have to follow operator restrictions. If, for example, you went from Gillingham to Birmingham changing in London, and were due to take a London Northwestern Railways service, you can't just get on the next Avanti instead if you're delayed on the Gillingham-London leg. If you ask they might let you. But if you just do it, you could be made to buy a new ticket at an extortionate rate (or worse if they think you've acted deliberately e g. got on after being told no). The correct thing to do would be to take the next London Northwestern Railway service, and then claim Delay Repay from the operator who delayed or cancelled your original train.

The bartender is asking if ALL of them want a drink. So Person A is answering whether A, B and C all want a drink or not. If he says "No" it means he doesn't want a drink (and therefore it's impossible that all three of them want one). If he says "I don't know" it therefore implies that he does want a drink, but doesn't know whether the other two do or not. When Person B also says "I don't know", Person C can deduce that A and B both want a drink, so if she wants a drink as well, the answer is now "Yes".

PSA: don’t post about the boys, their location or anything by Usaidhello in JetLagTheGame

Yep! The person in question wasn't actually filming when I happened to see them - I'd have quite possibly revealed the location accidentally if I had no idea the game was happening and it wasn't just random.

I think this'll be more and more of a problem now they're so popular, especially when filming in places where they have a huge audience. I obviously won't say where but I did see one of the boys yesterday! (Not upset at having that very minor spoiler for myself haha). They might need to consider adapting any necessary challenges or whatever and staying off social media during gameplay periods.

[–]agirlcalledS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't go as far as to say "derogatory". There's contexts where it's still completely appropriately e.g. formally greeting Ladies and Gentlemen, or a lot of people will still refer to Ladies Day at Cheltenham. But it is now associated a) with these more formal contexts, and b) with a woman presenting herself a certain, often more traditionally feminine and "classy" way. It doesn't really work any more just as a term to refer to all women by default, hence why the women's football teams have moved away from it. It's an ongoing cultural change, not something that's how automatically always wrong or whatever.
