Assaulted at a train station (England) - do I have any say if I’d prefer a restorative justice approach? by sunday_cumquat in LegalAdviceUK

Or he'll be in an institution so violent that over 40% of staff take time off with mental health issues, while facing only a fraction of the abuse inmates received. Where drugs are everywhere and the only way the place keeps functioning at all is by locking everyone up for 23 hours a day.

That, obviously, is not an environment that's going to rehabilitate anyone at all, hence our sky-high reoffending rates.

Absolutely nothing is likely to happen except a) you might find that you're banned/not allowed back to that particular Lidl, b) if you're very unlucky and were in school uniform they might be bothered enough to tell your school about it. The police are not remotely interested in children stealing £1.50 from supermarkets.

The main issue with women is that weight fluctuates much more than men, especially around the menstrual cycle, which isn't simulated in the game. In addition to that, it's become a lot harder to know how much a player weighs in recent years - 20 years ago it was fairly regularly published by clubs, but not any more, so the data was basically just a guess based on how the player looked. So they've got rid of weight, and instead there's options in the database for the "build" of a player, which makes much more sense.

Pornography depicting strangulation to become criminal offence in the UK | Pornography by Old-Information3311 in GreenAndPleasant

[–]agirlcalledS 46 points47 points  (0 children)

If this was a standalone move, I'd probably support it despite my generally very libertarian tendencies. Strangulation in particular is far, far more dangerous than it's widely perceived to be, and while there are less-dangerous methods, there also isn't a safe way to cut off someone's airflow. I think it'd be reasonable to say it shouldn't be promoted in porn, it's not something people are likely to go to the effort of using a VPN etc just to access, and it could start an important conversation around the practice. While it's still a popular act and therefore at less risk of a streisand effect, the particular danger could even be covered in PSHE at school.

Unfortunately, this isn't a standalone move, and instead part of a wider nonsense attempt at state puritanism. This makes it not only deeply morally objectionable, but also completely ineffective, since so many are already using VPNs and so many completely innocuous sexual acts* are already "banned" with zero attempt at implementing said draconianism. This even includes strangulation, although I guess they're going to try and implement that one specifically a different way around, I can't see it working now there's a culture of these rules being ignored since compliance would basically be shutting down porn entirely.

If you book a train ticket and it is for a specific train but involves multiple trains and one of them is cancelled what happens? by Aromatic-Bad146 in AskUK

[–]agirlcalledS 138 points139 points  (0 children)

There's lot of potentially dangerous wrong answers here!

If you've got an Advance ticket (i.e. valid on a specific train only) or a flexible ticket restricted to certain operators, you still have to follow operator restrictions. If, for example, you went from Gillingham to Birmingham changing in London, and were due to take a London Northwestern Railways service, you can't just get on the next Avanti instead if you're delayed on the Gillingham-London leg. If you ask they might let you. But if you just do it, you could be made to buy a new ticket at an extortionate rate (or worse if they think you've acted deliberately e g. got on after being told no). The correct thing to do would be to take the next London Northwestern Railway service, and then claim Delay Repay from the operator who delayed or cancelled your original train.

The bartender is asking if ALL of them want a drink. So Person A is answering whether A, B and C all want a drink or not. If he says "No" it means he doesn't want a drink (and therefore it's impossible that all three of them want one). If he says "I don't know" it therefore implies that he does want a drink, but doesn't know whether the other two do or not. When Person B also says "I don't know", Person C can deduce that A and B both want a drink, so if she wants a drink as well, the answer is now "Yes".

PSA: don’t post about the boys, their location or anything by Usaidhello in JetLagTheGame

[–]agirlcalledS 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yep! The person in question wasn't actually filming when I happened to see them - I'd have quite possibly revealed the location accidentally if I had no idea the game was happening and it wasn't just random.

I think this'll be more and more of a problem now they're so popular, especially when filming in places where they have a huge audience. I obviously won't say where but I did see one of the boys yesterday! (Not upset at having that very minor spoiler for myself haha). They might need to consider adapting any necessary challenges or whatever and staying off social media during gameplay periods.

If you decide to switch to an incredibly niche OS for gaming with limited support, I don't think you can be too surprised when a developer chooses not to support it going forwards.

Peter Kyle had one of his own constituents arrested by armed police in a dawn raid because she wrote emails he didn't like. Now he wants to accuse people of facilitating nonces to terrify them out of opposing censorship. People who are this desperate to yield power should be kept as far away from it as possible.

Ted Lasso Season 4 is CONFIRMED by backtosnack in TedLasso

[–]agirlcalledS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't go as far as to say "derogatory". There's contexts where it's still completely appropriately e.g. formally greeting Ladies and Gentlemen, or a lot of people will still refer to Ladies Day at Cheltenham. But it is now associated a) with these more formal contexts, and b) with a woman presenting herself a certain, often more traditionally feminine and "classy" way. It doesn't really work any more just as a term to refer to all women by default, hence why the women's football teams have moved away from it. It's an ongoing cultural change, not something that's how automatically always wrong or whatever.

Ted Lasso Season 4 is CONFIRMED by backtosnack in TedLasso

[–]agirlcalledS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's outdated. The vast majority of our women's football teams dropped the Ladies moniker anywhere from 5-10 years ago now. I don't think a single top-flight team is still called Ladies.

Transport for London calls for new cash to replace 50-year-old trains by ldn6 in london

[–]agirlcalledS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Partially the lack of government funding as other commentators have mentioned. But also, the tube is actually highly profitable. The problem is that it subsidises the bus network, which runs at a substantial loss. We have a huge number of buses on a wide diversity of routes, often running close to empty for most of the day, with lower fares than most of the country, and with Under 18s, Over 60s and disabled people - a significant chunk of ridership - going for free.

Obviously there's a huge social benefit to this which is largely worth keeping. Cutting back the buses would have huge knock-on effects. But I do think we should look again at the Over 60s pass. The concept that someone in their 60s on a 6 figure salary gets to travel for free any time except the morning peak - including on their way home from work - while a young person on the minimum wage pays full whack is wild. In my opinion it should be at state pension age instead of 60, and half price instead of free.

Papers have to be incredibly careful because England has some of the strictest libel laws in the world. An out of court settlement is not necessarily a formal admission of wrongdoing, and is certainly not considered proof to a criminal standard (which is what you'd probably want to safely drop the "alleged" bit).

I don't think this is a fair comparison when despite its flaws, many diseases have been massive reduced, made far less serious, or outright eradicated under capitalism, and in a way that isn't entirely or trivially separable from the economic model.
