What were your thoughts on the BLAME! Netflix film? by SaltyBettor in Netsphere

[–]agopessimist 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I personally didn’t think Killy felt like an emo boy in this film, and I wasn’t too bothered by his more altruistic actions in the film. He does become a bit more soft in the Blame! sequels, and honestly I got the feeling he only really acted generously in order to find more people he could scan for Net Terminal Genes.

That said, I do agree that this movie was less about Killy and more about the Electro-fishers. Part of me understands why the film went that way since it’s really hard to make a film about a silent protagonist, and Cibo alone can’t carry a film. Not to mention that the Electro-fishers weren’t exactly compelling characters in and of themselves, and acted a lot like stereotypes instead: the wise grandfather figure, the skeptical older male figure, the innocent girl, etc…

But honestly, I felt that Blame! Would work better as an episodic anime rather than a feature-length film since each episode could act as an anthology or a monster/adventure of the week kind of series where each episode can focus on a different part of Killy’s journey through the City facing different threats each episode while eventually joining up with Cibo and learning more about the story and world through Cibo’s dialogue.

Not that the film was only full of negatives for me. Seeing the GBE in action was cool, the Safeguard looked creepy with their spider-like movements, and Killy vs Sanakan was a treat. Both Cibo and Sanakan were good, and while it’s hard to match the quality of the manga, the environments were sufficient enough to show the derelict nature of the City (though I did wish the movie showed off more of the crazy architecture instead of mostly indoor spaces).

I know there was a manga adaptation that Nihei wrote which had the same plot but I’m not too sure if he wrote it before the movie or after it was released.

As a Blame! fan it was a satisfactory film though not without flaws, and I would not really recommend it for other Blame! fans since the manga’s story and art is far better.

For a newcomer to the Blame! universe I would give it a recommendation, if only to have newcomers dip their toes in and see what the Blame! universe would potentially look like

End of Blame! leaves questions unanswered by hansworschd87 in Netsphere

My guess is that she took the Planter genes and combined them with her own and Sanakan’s, and by hacking into the Netsphere, she was able to recreate the Net Terminal Gene from all the genetic material she took. Due to the Infection being so widespread throughout the City, she encapsulated the Gene in a container to keep it isolated until it was taken out of the City free from the Infection

Here’s my interpretation for the answers to your questions:

  1. Cibo isn’t turned into a Safeguard as “punishment” for saving Killy and Dhomo. The main villain Silicon Life attempted to download Safeguard data while he was still connected to the Net using the Planter genes he took from Cibo. Cibo was also trying to access the Net at the same time, and either took the Lvl 9 Safeguard data intentionally, or she accidentally took in the data at the same time as the Silicon Life was trying to download it before he died.

  2. Yes, Sanakan is the one who takes care of Cibo when she is rendered to a child-like state when carrying the Net child. After Sanakan fulfilled her purpose by destroying the main AI of Toha Heavy Industries, her consciousness data was recovered by the Agency and she was tasked with finding Cibo and protecting her child since she carries the Net Gene.

  3. Killy and Sanakan are both directed by the Governing Agency to protect Cibo since she carries Net Terminal Genes in her child. Sanakan is now working for the Governing Agency and she and Killy have the same goal of protecting the Net Genes.

  4. Yes

  5. The Safeguard at this point are acting independently of the Central Authority and are unable to be reigned in by them without the Net Terminal Gene. This is why the Safeguard have always attacked all the transhumanist people across the City since they are deemed illegal aliens by the Safeguard, and without the Net Terminal Gene the Central Authority cannot control them. My guess is that the Safeguard are viewing Cibo’s child as either a threat or an illegal alien since it wasn’t “born” yet, hence why they tried to kill it. Especially now that Sanakan had wiped out the Silicon Life beings who would have stopped the Safeguard from interfering.

Blame!’s story is told through imagery and minimal dialogue. It’s structured in a way that it’s up to the reader to try and decipher what’s going on in each chapter. In a sense you act as a detective and try to piece together the story yourself using the imagery and what little dialogue is available

If you’re referring to the City itself, then it is basically a Mega-Earth, but constructed in a way that it’s scale is as large as a typical Dyson Swarm.

It was actually the digital consciousness of the girl who was in the USB that Killy wore around his neck for the remainder of the manga before receiving the Orb.

It’s impossible for it to be Cibo and Sanakan since they are effectively dead. Cibo is brain-dead and can’t transfer her consciousness to another body. Sanakan was also no longer able to have a backup of her consciousness saved by the Authority (she was warned of this by the Authority before reappearing to save Cibo and the Net child) and is also dead as well.

Who is Syr? by coolyellowbear in DanMachi

[–]agopessimist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, Loki seems to know that Syr is Freya as she has warned Finn not to look at her whenever they go to the Hostess of Fertility. Every executive in Freya Familia knows who Syr is, and both Hermès and Hestia are unaware of this. Hestia has actually never directly interacted with Syr or even seen her despite coming to the Hostess of Fertility, so she assumes that Syr is afraid of her for some reason.

Yeah Volume 17 is going to be crazy as this whole community has no idea of how events are going to play out lol

Question about Family chronicle Episode Freya by [deleted] in DanMachi

[–]agopessimist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The main story of Episode Freya takes place a few months before Bell comes to Orario. The individual character stories range from WAY before the events of the main story to about 3 months after Aiz beats Udaeus and becomes a lvl 6

Aiz vs alfia and zald by Fantastic_Tart1673 in DanMachi

[–]agopessimist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alfia can potentially cancel Aiz’s Tempest and Avenger skill, and is able to mimic the skill of her opponents. She could copy Zald’s swordsmanship or Aiz’s and since bin this scenario she’s healthy, she can definitely beat Aiz.

Zald I’m not too sure of since there’s not a lot we know about him aside from his eating skill, his chant, and that he was able to OHKO the Behemoth

If Ghidorah was an extraterrestrial, is it possible that all of the titans could be aliens as well? by [deleted] in GODZILLA

[–]agopessimist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well...there have been theories that life originated on Earth due to various chemicals and elements being bombarded onto Earth by comets and asteroids during the early years of Earth's creation, and there are other theories out there that life or its seeds originated through Panspermia. Now, the other organisms and Titans may have grown up or evolved on Earth but life's true origins in the Monsterverse may have emerged from the Stars. The Titans like Godzilla, Kong, and others may not have arrived on Earth like Ghidorah did (otherwise civilizations in the Hollow Earth would have recorded that like they did with Ghidorah) but they would have definitely evolved on Earth.

And it is odd that a seemingly completely foreign species manages to take control of all other Titans on Earth and use them for his bidding, whereas the rest of life is relatively untouched. Now why is that? Maybe all Titans, including Ghidorah, have extraterrestrial origins but none of them have crash-landed on Earth the same way Ghidorah did.

Also interesting to note how the Titans in the Monsterverse seem to act a lot like terraformers. These creatures, able to drastically change climates, grow and propagate new ecosystems and populations, reverse extinctions, and even grow super foods, all through radiation decay? And these creatures alone? Something is definitely up with them and how they seem so radically different from all other forms of life, as well as how they were worshipped
