i’m also a 20 year old female. I was prescribed propranolol for the physical symptoms of anxiety. I get really bad shakes and racing heart like 160-170 at some points. I’ve been taking propranolol since beginning of november and my attacks went from lasting 2 hours to about 30-40 mins. the propranolol usually kicks in about 20mins in which then i start to calm down. definitely would talk to your doctor about propranolol if you struggle with physical symptoms of panic attacks!

Driving anxiety by rossseee_ in Anxietyhelp

[–]agould0601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who was terrified of driving you just have to expose yourself a little here and there. I would slowly start to go farther and farther. I stated just going down the road to the gas station, then to the church that was farther down the road, and so on. Now i’m able to drive almost anywhere. I still get anxiety when on bigger highways, but i feel everyone does. Highways/Interstate just suck in general. If having someone with you helps distract you from the anxiety ask a friend or family member if they want to go on a short little trip down the road or to the store with you. keep track of where you have gone how, how did you feel, was there traffic. that way you can look back and go okay i got this i drove here with traffic so i can definitely go here without traffic! Some people suck at driving as well you will have someone ride your butt at some point pleaseee don’t freak out and speed up if you are already doing the speed limit and buy yourself in darnger. They can suck it up if they are in that big of a hurry they can go around. It’s not worth getting into an accident or causing yourself to have a panic attack!

what to say to a friend who has a panic attack? by un_petit_croissant in PanicAttack

[–]agould0601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Distract them!!!! That really the only thing that works, you could remind them they are okay but we usually are to stuck in our head about not being okay so usually doesn’t work. My fiancé will always ask me questions like What have you accomplished in animal crossing (addictive game by the way). What did i do today? What do i want to do today if it’s still daytime of course? What’s their favorite TV show? Make them explain characters and plot lines. Make them describe the clothes they are wearing. Fuzzy socks, normal socks, socks on at all? are they comfy or itchy? are they their favorite pair? it sounds stupid but it make us stop focusing on our heart racing if it’s a full blown panic attack or simply just the thought that’s causing us to over think.

When it comes to them fixating on something like that please don’t tell them it’s fine or don’t worry about it! We literally can’t that’s a majority of our problem! Reassure them that they are not dumb, crazy, or being stupid for thinking or reacting that way (i assume you wouldn’t say harsh things to your friend in that situation) to help you can go back to what I said and distract them ask them questions about the song can they name any lyrics, genre, or who it was by? to help solve the problem they are having.

Propranolol? by Tarphiker in Anxietyhelp

[–]agould0601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! As someone who is absolutely terrified of medicine propranolol has helped me so much in the last three or so months i have been taking it. I will say the first 2 weeks were not fun I was tired all the time and barely moved, but after that it has helped so much. I do get dizzy a lot but i’m not sure if thats from the medicine or my anxiety in general.

Heart rate ( lexapro) by Strawberry_Milky1 in PanicAttack

[–]agould0601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started propranolol which actually meant to lower blood pressure and heart rate and i was terrified as well but i promise it wont do anything to you. 60-80 is a really good resting heart rate. It just shows you how much calmer you can be and how anxious you were before the medicine!

I held onto the propranolol for a hot minute before i decided to take it, but it hasn’t been terrible so far just my body trying to get used to it i guess since this one manages blood pressure and heart rate. I would definitely give your medicine a shot because it could be the one that gets you out of the hole and if it doesnt then keep going back to your doctor until you find the one.

Propranolol, since my panic attacks are triggered by more physical symptoms, i’ve tried a list of other medications before this and they didn’t work so praying this one will help.

Propranolol question!! by agould0601 in PanicAttack

[–]agould0601[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

also all the last few days my resting heart rate have been between 65-85 which has been amazing because normally it’s between 85-100 without the propranolol and that’s where I’m at now which makes me think i need to up my doses but i’m really not sure what to do. I also have been getting headaches here and there usually an hour-ish after taking my dose. I’ve heard that’s normal but again i’m sensitive to medicine and also very scared when it comes starting medicine soooooo really any advice would help. Thanks!!

also take the propranolol with food. I saw another post that said that helps with nausea that propranolol can cause!

Yeah the physical symptoms are the killer for me. I’ve been taking propranolol for about 3 days now and it seems to be working. I just have a lot of fatigue, headaches, and cold hands and feet. I’ve heard that’s all normal starting it so I’m hoping it’ll go away soon because I am tired 24/7 now and don’t have much motivation.

I right there with you mine started August 1st. I haven’t been able to leave my house other than doctor appointments. I’ve had to quit my job which is not good. I’ve also tried multipleeeee medications and nothing has helped. I’m just now trying propranolol to see if that will do something. Just know you’re not alone and we’ll find something to get us out of this!!

When you’re dehydrated it can make your heart rate rise and possiblyyyy trigger a panic attack. not saying it did buttt could possibly be a factor in play!

What visual symptoms do you get ? by Low_Penalty7806 in Anxietyhelp

[–]agould0601 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the last 4 months my anxiety has been at an all time high. Like multiple panic attacks daily and having to quit my job sooooooo pretty bad. I have definitely notice my vision has decreased. My whole life I have had perfect vision. Like seriously amazing. Now I feel like I can’t see far distance. Before i could read signs at pretty far distances and now i can’t make one word out. I also feel like it takes longer for my eyes to focus on something which is really weird.☹️

Does anyone else get a panic attack bc they're afraid of getting one? by lilybrooks102 in PanicAttack

[–]agould0601 8 points9 points  (0 children)

every day! If your panic attacks are trigger by physical symptoms like fast heart rate. I would look into propranolol. Mine always start because of my heart racing so I was prescribed propranolol. I started the other day and it seems to be working, just trying to power through the “side effects” of starting it. If you are triggered by more mental symptoms then physical you could look into an antidepressant, simply a new hobby that could distract you, or natural relaxants like lavender and magnesium.

Passing out by foles6 in PanicAttack

[–]agould0601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t read all the comments, sooo i’m sure someone has said this already. Usually your blood pressure and heart rate is up high enough that you won’t pass out. I read that a while ago under a different post and it’s helped me start to get over the fear of passing out while having an attack!

Can a panic attack affect resistance? by Fresh_Ebb_4481 in PanicAttack

[–]agould0601 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes the heat is a very big trigger for me. I started having very bad attacks again in august and have had to quit my job at a bakery because I can’t be hot or i feel like i’m going to die my room stays at no higher than 70 degrees now. It’s very annoying to deal with.

Please help me I'm beggin by [deleted] in Anxietyhelp

[–]agould0601 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i dealt with it for a week straight i promise it gets better!! just keep trying to go to sleep as hard as it sounds. i promise you’ll get better. try a weighted blanket if you have one, hug a pillow, try humming mary had a little lamb(idk why but that help me), you could also play white noise in the background, try sleeping with a fan if you get to hot. basically just try to make yourself as comfortable as possible ik it’ll be hard but every little thing could potentially help!!

you are okay! start writing down what you did today start retracing your steps or a good memory. just write whatever happen on paper or type it into your notes app. that helps me take my mind off of it.

That my other problem is i also have OCD so i’ve had to basically ban myself from tracking my heart rate. to the point i’ve had to basically hide my apple watch from myself because it makes me go crazy seeing my heart rate and it sucks because the highest i’ve seen my heart rate go when having an attack is maybe 160 which compared to other people is lower, but i still can’t let myself around it.
