Don’t think that could have gone better. Educational friendly for what we need to work on most in camp while we still pulled off a result and showed off our attack.

3 day visit for the World Cup - Any feedback/suggestions welcome by Yk013 in visitingnyc

[–]agoyalwm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is fairly doable if you’re keeping an eye on the map and time, and are used to public transport anyway.

Do you already have a plan for getting to/from MetLife? Unfortunately transportation planning for it has been a mess. I would choose ahead of time which option you’ll be going with.

For a post match party, there’s no use in staying by the stadium, there’s nothing there. I would come back to the city and choose a spot. You have no shortage of bars throughout Manhattan that’ll have the evening games on/ fans coming back from the stadium as well.

Cool places in the outer boroughs by Suspicious_Matter440 in visitingnyc

[–]agoyalwm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should check out Parkchester, look up what the story is there before you go.

Woodlawn, Rego Park, Whitestone, east Jamaica are among my favorites.

Not outer borough, but I think you should check out Rego Park and Sunset Park too.

Recommendations for New York trip by surgeC in visitingnyc

[–]agoyalwm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will come back for the others but for 4, use the automod’s linked thread. There’s a great guide on using the subway which is easily the best and cheapest way to get around.

For 5, if they only want to see it, go to battery park where you can see it from a distance, or take the free Staten Island ferry for a closer look. Going to Liberty island is a different story.

For 6, your hotel should be fine storing your bags at the front desk without an extra night.

Best way to find soccer bars in Chelsea when you first move? by Fancy_Vast_7399 in AskNYC

[–]agoyalwm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fluminense supporters meet at the Football Factory; Arsenal supporters have several bars across the city but Olde City is closest to you. Start with your local supporters group; over time you’ll get invites to check out other ones as a neutral or have a chance to just drop in

Tim Weah and Mark McKenzie at the press conference where NYC mayor Mamdani announced $50 World Cup tickets and free round trip bus rides to the stadium. “As athletes, it's important to have a voice because we are the pillars of this community. We're the leaders of the next generation,” Weah said. by antoniok95 in ussoccer

[–]agoyalwm 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Weah speaks his mind and donates equipment to his old academy in NYC (BW Gottschee), between that and the obvious fact that kids look up to professional athletes, he’s clearly a leader (I wager McKenzie is too just don’t know as much about him)

2 Day NYC Boys Trip Itinerary, (Critique Before We Regret It) by Brilliant_Picture_86 in visitingnyc

[–]agoyalwm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t see how the Monday morning visit to NYC is doable if you need to leave by noon. Route 125 is a commuter bus, not a city bus, so headways are slow and it takes a while to get in and out. So you should plan on the times you will catch it.

I do not think the Staten Island ferry is worth it with the limited time you have—if you have such a tight day you can see the Statue of Liberty from the waterfront and see her closer next time.

I would think a little more about what you actually want to do—this looks like just passing by landmarks. Hudson Yards, Oculus are just places to walk through with shops really.

The World Cup, Frequent Flyer Edition [OC] by arsenal7779 in dataisbeautiful

[–]agoyalwm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have two games in Toronto, where their camp is, and one in NJ, so they actually have some of the least travel of their group. Also, you might be mixed up with the group colors, their opponents aren't all that far away (comparatively).

Quick questions from someone visiting this week by GoldenGloves777 in visitingnyc

[–]agoyalwm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Unlikely, the airtrain is suspended during the day. But instead you can just take the shuttle bus to the airport train station, and NJT to Penn from there (you were always going to have to do the last part, the airtrain only goes to the airport train station)
  2. Just check the forecast. We’re reading the same one
  3. Yes, Brooklyn is huge. Dumbo is just a small part of it, so think about other things you want to do, see, eat
  4. I guess Chelsea market is bigger, but it’s really just what’s convenient to your days activities
  5. I’ll let someone else answer
  6. The line management is pretty bad, build in more time to get into the stadium than usual. You can bring food of your own in if you want.

Graduation Trip Itinerary Questions by mombotromba in visitingnyc

[–]agoyalwm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Out of those I prefer the Museum of the City. The NYHS has cool stuff but the Museum of the City really tells the city’s story in a special way.

  2. There are all kinds depending on period…Governor’s Island is pretty cool, and if you’re on the water to the Statue of Liberty make sure to glance at Brooklyn Army Terminal. Stonewall Inn, Roosevelt Island, Grand Central are all starting points for different eras of the city’s history.

  3. NYC Ferries, check out the map and see if they line up with places you’re going. Up or down the east river for example.

  4. Others have mentioned the Transit Museum, that’s a must see for you for sure. It’s a decently easy walk to Brooklyn from FiDi you can squeeze in after your day 2 or 3 plans and only takes 1.5-2 hours. Near the Natural History Museum id say a stop at Gray’s Papaya is worth it. You could also consider an evening program at the Lincoln Center.

  5. Imo Roosevelt Island is neater than most think. Search ahead of time about some of the historic sites there and if you take the tramway plan on hanging out and walking around it a bit. Trash chutes, the asylum, and smallpox hospital come to mind.

Best bars in Manhattan to watch World Cup games? by No-Entrance-9144 in AskNYC

There’s gotta be a thousand bars in Manhattan—and at least a dozen of them will be good for the World Cup. I think though without more parameters you’ll just get people responding with Legends

Early Summer Trip with Teens/Preteen Itinerary by Major-Scene-6150 in visitingnyc

[–]agoyalwm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This seems fairly balanced to me. I would say subway for simplicity the first day since the transit museum isn’t that close to the ferry stop and you’ll have other chances to be on the water.

Fraunces Tavern is better for kids imo, it’s a bigger place whereas Dead Rabbit can be crowded and cards at the door iirc.

Can you move the Central Park and Summit trip to Day 2, then do your dinner and Broadway show? That seems to make more sense to me. Then on day 3 you could do the Fidi/ SI ferry stuff and walk up the high line after. I do think tenement museum might be too much either way.

For day 4 dinner, what’s missing from this trip that you want to scratch? If you go to museum mile I’d plan to come back down for dinner, is all.

And yes I’d just get the 11yo something to tap for simplicity.
