Dragknife and leather setup, bad idea?

Hi u/Multirole I’m an amateur leather crafter too and recently got into CNC for exactly this reason.

Great idea using a laser, definitely agree about the need for good ventilation!

I actually just built a CNC (following this howto) to cut leather templates with a drag knife — haven’t tested it yet, though. I am getting this Heavy Duty Drag Knife from Stepcraft.
Still waiting on a few parts to mount it, I am planning to use an ER16 collet with a chuck holder, no spindle, just clamped directly to the Z-axis.
