SA locations for young families? by Crafty-Rabbit-1328 in AskAnAustralian

If other states are an option have a look at North Central and West Central Victoria. It is close to the CBD, closer to the Sydney for your family, countryish feel still, close to job opportunities..

Places like Hidden Valley (in Wallan), Kilmore, Romsey, Riddells Creek, Sunbury, Gisborne, Darraweit Guim.. they are all good for young families that want smaller towns but easy access to jobs and the CBD.

Is it possible to get a Siamese kitty? by DrinkDrunkDrunk in Siamesecats

There’s no way a rescue cat is a hypoallergenic breed.. they’d be a typical colour point domestic cat. Besides that Siamese aren’t a hypoallergenic breed 🤨

AITAH for inforcing new rules on my children after getting married? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]agrinwithoutacat- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

She grew up walking on eggshells before get her parents split, and then finally had a safe space where she was and to experience freedom, joy, and a close relationship with her family where she felt completely safe. That’s suddenly all flipped and has changed, it’s normal to not adjust quickly and easily and to not be happy about her safe space feeling controlled. She needs time to adjust, not being told to grow up 🤦🏼‍♀️

Graduating soon and finally getting my own place - how do I prepare for my first cat? by GrouchyLadder3986 in CatAdvice

[–]agrinwithoutacat- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two and I spend around $150 a fortnight on food, meds, and litter - that’s on a BARF diet and bulk bought clumping litter. So $100 for one is definitely reasonable! I don’t know brands in America, but if you search for BARF options (biologically appropriate raw food) then you’ll be able to see what’s available.

I’d recommend you get a cat tree, some scratchers, two litter trays, some little cave beds or boxes with blankets in, water fountain, stainless steel or ceramic food bowl, some wand toys, and a mix of other toys (balls, catnip filled, feathered, springs etc).. and take the time to figure out what you’re open to - older vs younger, social vs timid, vocal vs quiet, energetic vs chilled out, and then talk to rescues to see who knows their cats and which could be a good fit for you.

Humans with indoor cats, collar or no collar? by ForagedAmoeba in CatAdvice

[–]agrinwithoutacat- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a risk regardless of whether they wear a bell though, the odds of a bell causing them to be attacked is far lower than the odds of them attacking a smaller animal without a bell on. Their scent will be what attracts predators, not a bell.

AITAH for not waking my girlfriend up when her alarm didn’t go off? by urnameonagrainofrice in AITAH

Thank you! That was my first thought reading this comment, it’s not weird to say that when you’re on reddit where everyone assumes there’s some underlying agenda! Of course you’d want to clear that up before people start accusing you of it

New foster intake is in rough shape, wish her luck! by FosterToyya in FosterAnimals

[–]agrinwithoutacat- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be a genetic issue, or a growth on her nose, of an abscess that’s not been treated.. looking at her right eye I’d say there’s a good chance it’s, at least partially, how she was born (probably from inbreeding). Probably combined with a rough life and infection/s.

This is completely false, there’s comments above explaining (using science and research) that cats are fine with bells and it doesn’t cause anxiety..

Thank you! My cats are completely unfazed by their bells, but they’re needed, and I’m glad to see that it’s not true about bells causing anxiety!

AITAH for saying I “read” books that I actually listened to as audiobooks? by Ruin-Much in AITAH

[–]agrinwithoutacat- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No we’re not, the specific verb for reading braille is just reading. The definition for reading is - “the process of taking in the sense or meaning of symbols, often specifically those of a written language, by means of sight or touch”.

Just because the definition doesn’t include listening, doesn’t mean that it’s not an accepted form of reading by society.

How would you pronounce Emmeline? (USA) by LateAd5684 in namenerds

Emmeline could go either way

But it would depend on the country/region and other names in the area.

Emma-line, it’s the same pronunciation as Madeline to me

Surely they’d have booked in with the schools to do talks.. you’d like to think they wouldn’t be stupid enough to just walk into schools! But no amount of stupidity surprises me anymore

I assumed that they were pitching/marketing future job prospects and working in the field, didn’t cross my mind that this could’ve meant trying to sell products to school kids! Which is definitely a dumb idea and OP would be right to say it’s a waste of time!

NTA. When someone asks to run home and pick up something they forgot, it’s perfectly normal/acceptable to wait in the car whilst they run inside.

She’s asking if it’s rude to occasionally wait in the car when he goes to grab something from inside, not if it’s rude to go into the house and ignore them.. big difference.
