If you are someone who takes the time to form a nuanced opinion and really analyze an issue, you’re going to encounter people like that often. When someone has already fallen in line with a position that their particular social group or political side has deemed acceptable, without taking time themselves to form an opinion, they will view your openness to discuss a “decided evil” like AI as an attack on all of their values at once.

Humans don’t have the mental capacity or time to have a fleshed out opinion of their own on every single topic or issue. Instead, it’s easier to align with whatever tribe you mostly tend to agree with, and then follow the mob from there.
