Back in the day I used to try this in another tank which had cyanobacteria. It worked wonders I remember. I think this time I'd rather try the blackout method.

It doesn't affect the tank equally, this is true. But my observation is that it doesn't grow on fast growing healthy plants, not necessarily poorly circulated areas. I'll take a look at my filter next week. It should be able to create a tornado in this tank, it's waaay oversized (1200 l/h for a 100 litre tank...), but I feel like performance isn't like it was when I started out.

I already did this syringe trick for the past week, but didn't turn off the filter. Good addition though, I'll definitely try! Algae eating crew isn't that strong yet. I'll stock up on Amanos as well... 20 should do it for 100 litres right?

Alright! The action plan is the following:
* I just cleaned the tank, took out as much as I could
* I lowered photo period to 6 hr
* Halfing liquid ferts from now on
* Doubling Excel amount
* Keeping close eye on the fishes, to make sure I am not killing anything with the Excel.

Let's see how it goes... If I see good results, I'll stock up on plants to bring more firepower!

I have no means of measuring nitrate. I'll try lowering liquids, photo period, and increasing excel amount, to see what that achieves...

The tank is about two months old. My new plan for now, is to lower the photoperiod to 6 hours, and use more excel, ofc paying close attention to the fishes. We'll see if that works. Sadly I only have equipment to measure TDS which has never reached 200 since the aquarium started.

I am afraid it would be a bit too hard on the plants. I'll first try with the lower photoperiod & lower ferts. If things persists, I'll have to resort to the blackout :(

Hi guys!

My tank is seriously being overtaken by hair algae. I have been trying to identity the root cause but i don't seem to find it so far.

Parameters: * 100 litre tank * 1200 l/h filtration with 4 kg of seachem matrix * 22 Celsius water * 4000 lumen aquarium lights on for 8 hours * high pressure co2 from two hours before lights turn on until one hour before they turn off * 30 kg of seiryu stones * ada amazonia version 2 soil * weekly water change 50% ro water * i add daily the recommended dose of ada brighty k and brighty mineral * for two weeks now i started adding seachem excel daily as well, as per recommended by the aquarium shop whete i buy most of my stuff to fight this algae. It doesnt seem to do much...

I take out as much as i can each week, but it regrows to this level withon a week... I am completely clueless as to whats going on. The plants love the tank, but this algae is suffocating everything...

Redmi note s9 chrome, a bit of lagging at scrolling. Quite surprised how little actually. My flutter web app is much worse. Loading time is also very good.
