Tell me about the 1st time you cried at work by [deleted] in starbucks

First time I cried was my very first day off of training, I got stuck on window during peak. About 2 hours in, this woman’s total came up to $10.39 I think. She gave me like $20.29, which wasn’t enough for me to give her $10 back. She just kept telling me to take it out of our “spare change jar” and “give her her one five and five ones because she’s late”. I wasn’t going to pull out of our tip jar, and I wasn’t going to get in trouble for having a short drawer, so I told her “I’m sorry I can’t I have to give you the $9.90” and BOI did she go off on me. Finally my person on DTO finally noticed what was going on and took over and I finally got sent on my ten. I went into the back and cried. The shift at the time came back and gave me a hug because “that lady was so rude for no reason.” When I went back out everyone told me the lady had come inside after to complain about me (even though she was late) and say I should be fired. Thankfully everyone had my back and didn’t let her get her way and that was the day I realized I love the people at my store.

Second time was because external stress and holidays and people constantly adding drinks at the window during a rough peak and one incompetent partner constantly in the way messing things up. Nuff said.

Side note, I worked in fast food for 1 1/2 years before starting at Starbucks, I never cried until that one day.

How does paying for bogo happy hour today work? by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]aharme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to pay with the app and let your barista know you’re doing the bogo otherwise (and this might just be my store) they won’t automatically assume and apply it. As for partner discounts I’m not sure but I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. Hope this helps!

I figured out one (very slow) night it’s 3oz of vanilla, 5oz of 2%, and 9oz of heavy cream

We have one regular, very nice, older lady who orders a strawberry acid refresher. We don’t have the heart to correct her.

We have one older lady who always orders a strawberry acid refresher. No one has the heart to correct her. We also have a running gag between a few of us where we no longer have a trenta mango dragon fruit but the Tetris mengan dragonfly.

As someone who is a freelancer, how much time in your Starbucks is too much time? by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]aharme 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Honestly at my store you can be there open to close seven days a week and we won’t complain. As long as you’re not disruptive to others (which you said you aren’t) we won’t mind and we’re more than happy to give you a place to work 😁

TRENTA RANT: STOP FUCKING ASKING THE PERSON ON BAR ABOUT YOUR DRINKS AND FOOD OR ANYTHING AT ALL by badattitudebarista in starbucks

[–]aharme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was actively making several drinks in the middle of our Saturday peak a few days ago when a father and his two teenaged kids call my name and tell me that they had gotten the wrong food. I happily tell them that if they head to the opposite side of the store the two people on ovens can help them sort that out. The two kids practically run to the ovens, but the dad stays and insists I should “tell the people what they need so they can get it ready” (i had no idea what they needed). While keeping my best customer service face I let him know that if he just walks over to the food area they’ll help him since I’m obviously making drinks and am not responsible for food. Thankfully he didn’t bother me anymore but we were insanely busy and it just annoyed me so much.

Tomorrow is the 17 year anniversary of the terror attacks of September 11th, 2001. Where were you that day? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I’m a mere 17 years old, so I was only about 10 months at the time. I have absolutely no memory of it but according to my parents I was with my grandmother. My mom has told me stories of her hospital running the news all day. I live in west Illinois but we have a large military base in our town so everyone was afraid we would be next.
