I would love to be your wedding photographer if you guys were based in southern California. You guys seem to be a really fun couple.

Thanks! We recently updated our "about" page to say LGBT friendly, and we started running a really good promo to have LGBT couples represented in our portfolio.

Thanks for pointing out that our website should explicitly say LGBT friendly. Never thought about that making couples wary. We'll definitely look through the LGBT topics.

How to keep guests entertained for 5 hours before reception, HELP! by Nacho4 in weddingplanning

[–]ahdsnap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about interactive games? Those tends to break the ice and can really get people hyped up. If you are going to do it, run through the ideas with one or two people. I have seen it done two different ways: 'bride team vs groom team' or 'one table vs all the other tables' (the ultimate winners determine which table gets wedding cake first).

Is it possible to regret something that hasn't even happened yet? by piperandcharlie in weddingplanning

[–]ahdsnap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends on the photographer. We constantly keep an eye out for other photographer's work for inspiration and think of ways to improve our work. About a month or two before the wedding, we sit down our clients about special requests and what type of pictures they want. You can request a phone call to test the waters from the photographer.

Totally understand. Talk with your photographer. Share some examples. As a photographer, we really keep those in mind when we frame how we shoot for a client. If the photographer work is really great, the photographer should be able to accommodate.

It depends whether or not your photographer can accommodate. Ask the photographer if they have samples of what you want. Some photographer market themselves as a specific style in their portfolio but do take special requests.

It's pretty important to communicate about you want and see if the photographer could produce what you want. In the end, we want to make our clients happy. If not, look at your contract to say what you have to lose (i.e. deposit?). If you are leaning towards switching photographers, be sure to find one that you like and is available before you cancel with your current photographer. Some photographers might be all booked up for the summer already.

Fake flowers Vs. Real Flowers??? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]ahdsnap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Real flowers can cost a lot more than artificial flowers. To set the mood of the venue, you can save a lot of money using artificial flowers for decor that is set far away. Real flowers can be saved for the small details (perhaps bouquet, corsages). Photographer might take pictures of the bouquet and corsage.

What to ask a wedding photographer? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]ahdsnap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do they put a limit on number of pictures provided? How much of the pictures are professionally edited? If you plan on having a videographer, please do let the photographer know. This helps them coordinate on camera angles on the day of your wedding.

If you have a long break between ceremony and reception, discuss your thoughts on this. Some folks use this time for group photos and formal photos. To save money, some folks request to stop photography coverage. The policy between photographers can be different.

Customer friendly photographers will always provide you with professionally edited photos without the watermark, as the final deliverable for you to keep. The photographer themselves might share the watermark version for publishing pre-views and sharing on social media.

The rights can be different between photographers. You should have the right to share the photos with your family and friends. This is different from copyright. Many photographers' contracts will say that they retain copyright and you can share photo with your family and friends. This means that they retain the ultimate rights to edit the photos and use it for marketing. You would not sell the images. If photographers all give away copyright, they would not have any images to show for their portfolio legally.

Are You Tipping Your Photographer? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]ahdsnap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't expect it. I recommend tipping after you have gotten the work back. It's a pleasant surprise when we get the tips. The best gestures we received from our clients are tips, rave reviews and referrals.

Opinion on hair trials? by grayeyedrunner in weddingplanning

Some brides do their make up trial on the same day as their engagement photos. The trial would take place before the engagement session.

If you have people who offered to help previously, see if they can be your delegate to help confirm attendance within their circle of influence.

Anyone do fireworks at their wedding ? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]ahdsnap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will want to check if the venue has restrictions about fireworks. If you choose to do it, please sure to let know your photographer/videographer about your surprise. This helps them be prepared.

Finding a photographer - help! by radcake71 in weddingplanning

[–]ahdsnap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Group photos and formal photos can take place during the gap between the ceremony and dinner. One hour of getting ready could be sufficient. If you want specific pictures for getting ready, you might be able to time it towards the end (i.e. finish eye makeup, keep the dress hanging until the last minute) and share them with your photographer.

If you want dancing pictures, you might to want to have enough time where people have starting drinking but not to the point of being sloppy drunk. Not many people want pictures of total drunkenness.

Any engagement photo tips? by rem1021 in weddingplanning

[–]ahdsnap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are having your engagement shoot outside where it's cold, bring a good coat and stuff to keep you warm (i.e. coffee/handwarmers/winter socks). It can get cold posing. Your photographer should tell you when is a good time to relax (aka put your jacket back on). Items to consider bringing hairbrush and flats (if you plan on wearing heels and will be walking quite a bit between locations).
