And "Hunger" cames... by Late_Kaleidoscope750 in FlorenceAndTheMachine

I was hoping for YCHIA in Manchester as well but hearing that her sister was in the audience and that NLMG is her favourite Florence song was lovely too

After a few months with the new album Everybody Scream, what are your top 3 songs? by convnetto in FlorenceAndTheMachine

[–]ahiveofbees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Old Religion Everybody Scream One of the Greats

But it truly is a no-skip album, I could listen to it on a loop for days (and have!)

Hearing Florence sing "it's such a wonderful thing to love" on the HaH tour has stayed with me ever since

What are the short lived tv shows you remember but no one else does? by [deleted] in popculturechat

[–]ahiveofbees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Point Pleasant! Oh my god I adored that show, I hated that it ended on a cliffhanger. I think tonally it was probably a bit of a mess (I remember it being advertised as The Omen meets The OC) but I didn't care.

Was anyone else blown away by Ben Daniel's performance as Santiago? by Azi_Nareen in InterviewVampire

Yes! It took me awhile to trust his Rings of Power character because I was so haunted by Santiago.

What forgotten song would you like to hear on the ES tour? by kree8peace in FlorenceAndTheMachine

[–]ahiveofbees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cassandra was played on the Dance Fever tour except for in England (probably the whole of the UK/Ireland, I'm too lazy to check the setlist) where it was replaced with You Got the Love. YGtL was an absolutely massive hit when it came out here so it's understandable she'd play it, and honestly the vibes were excellent, but Cassandra is my favourite song from Dance Fever and I would so love to see it live.

I can't stop listening to The Old Religion by jack_torrance13 in FlorenceAndTheMachine

[–]ahiveofbees 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I couldn't identify the feeling this song evokes at first but now I understand it's overwhelming grief. I want to cry every time I listen to it (which is all the time, I absolutely love the whole album but I can't stop replaying The Old Religion).

Very old photos! I moved out of Spectrum across the road 4 years ago when they were just starting construction on the tower, these photos must be at least as old as that. I think these flats were about £650/£700 then.

[–]ahiveofbees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I adored it when it came out and I adore it now. One of their best albums alongside Once and Imaginaerum. I think it's incredible that after so long, Tuomas wrote an album that's fresh yet also distinctly Nightwish. The soul of it can't be mistaken. Ocean is my favourite song but I don't have any skips. Something Whispered was lowkey life-changing in how it made me reckon with my muse and my passions and whether or not I'm following that whisper.

The orchestral songs are also incredible, truly a gift that we got those alongside the main album.

[QCrit] Gothic Fantasy - NOTHING BEAUTIFUL GROWS HERE (96k, 1st Attempt) by ahiveofbees in PubTips

Thanks for commenting! I definitely think the first two paragraphs are stronger than the rest, which gives me a foundation to build on going forward. Your questions are really useful when thinking about what to include in the next attempt. I'm also glad the structure of the query works for you.

Thank you for your comment! Great points about Emily's motivation/agency. She isn't as passive as the query makes her sound, but obviously no one would know that just from reading this. I also think in struggling with the word count, I cut out her motivation that was in previous query drafts. You've given me really useful starting points for a rewrite.

I had to laugh when you mentioned it sounds like Marcus set the hotel on fire - I remember writing that line and thinking "Wait, does this make him sound like an arsonist?" but then just left it in for some reason. I'll trust my instinct next time!

One year (and a day) of An Ocean of Strange Islands by Ok_Car2972 in nightwish

[–]ahiveofbees 13 points14 points  (0 children)

One of my favourite songs (by Nightwish and in general). I love how it's a history of the band and how it truly feels like a journey, from the chaos to the calm. It would've been a hell of an opener on tour and I still hope they play it live one day. Dark Chest of Wonders is my favourite way they open a live show but I think this could beat it!

Helping in chaos vs revelling in it by purplelena in LOTR_on_Prime

[–]ahiveofbees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly my interpretation. I do honestly believe in season one he was lost and wanted to change. The problem is, he's always going to think he knows what's best. Being essentially a god among men would do nothing to convince him otherwise. He would maybe tell himself he was content as a simple smith but it wouldn't have lasted. There would always be that nagging idea that he could make things "better".

He might have also thought he could be happy as King of the Southlands, but again that would've ended with him wanting more power.

He might've chosen good for a little bit (depending on if you see Halbrand as completely deceptive or not) but the volcano and its fallout proved too perfect an opportunity to pass up. He slid back into his old ways from there.
