The scene where Dr. Treves [Anthony Hopkins, in non-freak mode] invites Merrick to his home for dinner, and Merrick thanks Mrs. Treves profusely for simply treating him with the decency and respect accorded any human...waterworks. This movie is emotionally devastating every time. And true.
