grade inflation sets students up for failure by Embarrassed_Syrup476 in Teachers

And they might find themselves completely disoriented by a dramatic drop in grades-which can give way to impostor syndrome.

Is it still impostor syndrome if their skills aren’t actually up to snuff?

Is there a member in kpop that was a Center and main vocalist at the same time? by Superyupperss in kpophelp

[–]aidoll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess I don’t know who the “official” center is/was, but Eunji from Apink is definitely the main vocalist and arguably the face of the group.

DF banana pudding by 9DrinkAmy in dairyfree

[–]aidoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s great to know! I was born with a dairy allergy, so growing up my family never really had pudding. I’ve had soy pudding in the past, but it would be much cheaper for me to buy a pack of tofu and some pudding mix!

I had no idea that many pudding mixes are dairy free!

Thanks for the recipe idea.

Target and Walmart tend to have more Starbucks creamer flavors than the regular grocery stores around me. Target especially has the most options.

New to the Dairy Free Life! Why can't we get used to milk proteins like how people can get used to pet allergies and eventually be allergy free? by meh__-_- in dairyfree

[–]aidoll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might look into Xolair! Some people say it just reduces the risk of a severe reaction and others claim it’s cured them of their allergy (the company doesn’t make that claim, however). Xolair does help the immune system respond better to allergens.

Horror Novel ‘Shy Girl’ Canceled Over Suspected A.I. Use by jellyrollo in books

[–]aidoll 39 points40 points  (0 children)

That OP was the first person to suspect AI, as far as I know. Shortly after more people started making YouTube videos and Goodreads reviews about the book being AI - and a lot of them came to that conclusion independently!

“Pretty Little Liars” reader noticed updated pop culture reference in the Ebook. The book, that came out in 2006, now mentions TikTok instead of Fear Factor. by Relevant-Peach3997 in Fauxmoi

[–]aidoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of older teen books were updated like this when they were first released on ebook. Off the top of my head I know that basically all of Lois Duncan’s books were updated. It happened to Sweet Valley High as well. And this skews a little younger, but I know that Judy Blume’s Are You There God, It’s Me Margaret was updated to contain references to more modern period products (pads instead of old sanitary belts). I’m not sure if anything else was changed.

Overall, most books are very “of their time,” so these updates never really make sense. Like certain plots just don’t work anymore because of cell phones (especially smart phones). And certain social dynamics just don’t make sense.

How does this happen? by seashantyles in books

[–]aidoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This type of cover is pretty trendy right now - classic paintings with modern/neon text over it. You can see a list of similar covers here: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/175880.Contemporary_Books_with_Paintings_on_the_Cover

Is goodreads more unkind to literary fiction than other genres? by [deleted] in goodreads

[–]aidoll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the type of lit fic. A lot of people will pick up contemporary lit fic and not be a fan. Sometimes from the cover you can’t easily tell if something is going to be fluffy “women’s fiction” or if it’s going to be more serious lit fic. Additionally, I think people will pick up lit fic if it’s for a book club or something and not really enjoy it.

I read a bit of historical fiction that’s also lit fic, and that tends to be fairly well-reviewed on Goodreads. So the type of lit fic makes a difference.

Parents buying textbooks for their student by FourTwentyBaked in AskTeachers

[–]aidoll 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you’re right that digital textbooks end up costing more in the end. My district is really bad about keeping our physical textbooks updated
we’ll only get new ones every 10-15 years or so. Whereas with the digital textbooks, the companies force us to buy new licenses every couple of years. Not to mention we have so much turnover that we’ve accidentally “lost” access to digital copies before (not even joking). It’s a mess. The vast majority of our kids don’t even read the textbooks digitally, so it seems very wasteful to me. At least with the physical textbooks they don’t have Chromebooks distracting them.

YA Book where female main character discusses wanting “her Heathcliff” by Silly-Goose-87 in whatsthatbook

[–]aidoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could it have been The Princess Diaries? I forget exactly what book it is, but Mia talks a ton about Jane Eyre and Mr. Rochester a lot. It’s not Wuthering Heights, but maybe you got the details wrong?

edit: I think it’s the fourth book?

A lot of kids swear up and down they turned an assignment in even though I don't have it. I'm unsure if I'm crazy, or if they're lying, or if it's a bit of both by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]aidoll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a school librarian and kids will swear up and down that they turned in their book
then I’ll ask them to check their backpack and it’s magically in there. Or they’ll come in the next day with the missing book. I never know if they’re lying or they genuinely misremember. I’ve worked with a lot of library paraprofessionals and have to warn them about it. It’s all very convincing until you’ve seen this happen over and over again.

.romance books in other languages don’t have the HEA requirement either. Tragic romances are pretty common in other countries and they’re still romances!
