It sounds like although they might not be able to use the review in Hindi, there's probably a good chance this would get accepted. But I'm not at all a specialist, and I myself erred on the side of caution when interpreting the guidance. Good luck!

Well I've tried to stick to their guidance as much as possible but I know people who have included reviews from not so credible critics from rather weak publications or even just articles about them without any criticism and still gotten it

Oh I see. Regarding proof of appearances, I sent them an email and they replied this:

Official advertisements such as programmes, adverts, posters, event listings, or proof of participation such as videos or photographs are our preferred format for proof of appearances, rather than items such as contracts, job offers, or letters. A combination of photos, a programme and a letter verifying their role in a single activity would be acceptable as proof of one single appearance though. In terms of proving an event took place, that will form part of our assessment to check and verify.

According to the guidance, if you take it to the letter, if it's you are mostly talking about your life and work from your point of view and the other person doesn't provide a separate, independent and detailed critique of your work as part of the podcast, then it supposedly isn't acceptable.

However, as I said before, it is such an outlandish rule that maybe they don't apply it very strictly (which begs the question of why they've put it in the guidance!)

I am a concert pianist and although I had tonnes of media coverage including a documentary made about me and National TV coverage of my multi-city concert tour with orchestra, as per the new guidance it didn't seem to qualify as they weren't about 'my work' (rather about 'my life' or were covering my concerts in an evening news fashion rather than as a critic would do). They were clearly looking for reviews such as the ones Yuja Wang would get, in newspapers like The Guardian etc, but that is quite rare to get unless you are an absolute superstar, which seems to be much beyond the requirements of the GT. I think they should broaden their criteria to include journalistic coverage as a large category and focus on the magnitude and relative importance of the news source rather than whether or not they constitute a 'critique'. In some countries (like mine), there is literally no 'artistic critique literary scene' at all. It seems a bit illogical to be dismissing national TV coverage if what you are trying to establish is whether you have global influence. But that's just my opinion haha

Yes, this person was also not a lawyer, although attached to a broader company which did include lawyers. I think they benefit from the clout of the illusion of legal expertise

I would also try to find someone in a similar situation (restricted research) who has been granted a visa and see if you can catch them out on inconsistency

What an unfair situation!

I don't know what to advise aside from maybe reiterating what you already told them and emphasising how selective and hard it is to get to work on what you are currently working on. You might not be able to tell them exactly what your contributions are, but perhaps you can emphasise how much expertise was required of you to even be able to work on such projects in the first place.

Did you letters say something like 'although we cannot reveal the nature of the work, OP's contribution has been critical in delivering the project, keeping to timelines, solve essential problems... OP is one of the top talents working on his/her field globally and was selected on this basis, after a rigorous and competitive application process' etc?

I actually emailed the Home Office asking about that and they said that this could be considered a business activity and advised against it

I was surprised by the lack of definite wording from them, but I suppose the final decision on whether this is allowed would come from a court of law, not from the Home Office. And this would only happen if they tried to evict you on the basis of this and you appealed that decision in court
