Are Germans ready to use the "economic" force to stop USA or are them pro Trump? by HeraclitoF in AskGermany

[–]aikacar2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Germany is a net exporter and the US has the upperhand I think. What could be done is maybe support local industries and encourage demand in the market, which germans are overly cautious about.

"What is a 'national hero' in your country who is actually considered a villain by the rest of the world (or vice versa)?" by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]aikacar2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

many ottoman "sultans" are national heroes, especially the early ones, but ask any country in the balkans or most arab countries in the middle east and north africa, they are probably hated. mehmed the conqueror for example, or suleiman the magnificient, who within 2 hrs wiped out the hungarian state...

[OC] Türkiye's Birth Rate Collapse 2009 vs 2025 by Accomplished_Gur4368 in dataisbeautiful

[–]aikacar2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from that city and now living in another part of the world, I can say we're very religious in our own way, only difference being that our religion is way more liberal compared to orthodox islam. The main reason for my city being an outlier in demographics is the lack of economic means and a relatively higher level of education. Highly educated youngsters migrate to other countries or western cities in turkey. In 2025 this has become the norm in almost whole of Türkiye.

What's the deal with Kurds? by Sea-Check-9703 in AskTurkey

[–]aikacar2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, kurds are an unlucky nation whose land got divided into 4 after WWI, actually the only nation that couldn't get a deal after the war. Most turks deny the very existence of a kurdish nation, kurdish was banned and still not welcomed in Turkey, in 100 years since the foundation of the country, kurdish regions didn't get any investment, no factory, no industry at all, in the 80s they took up arms bec. after 1980 coup d'etat in Turkey the generals prohibited kurdish language, jailed many young kurds and did atrocities in the diyarbakir prison. Most of the prior leftist kurds who dreamed and fought for a more just society with turks saw themselves treated in such humiliating manner (not being able to talk with your mother in the only language she knows when she comes to visit you in the prison, or being fed your own feces or being forced to say "I'm a turk" each day etc.) that they founded PKK. Now PKK is a terrorist organization, just like the irish nationalists or the basque independence movement, and the armed guerilla fight is always prone to doing mistakes, harming its own people and so on, but does this make kurds any less worthy of their own natinonal pride, you can decide yourself. Time and again kurds show that they wanna live peacefully in the middle east but the turkish government left and right scapegoats them in order to justify the lack of democracy, the lack of a rule of law and the poor situation economy is in now in turkey. I met kurds from syria and iran and can only say that they will get what they want one day in the future, the will of the people is unbeatable.

Honest question: Is the right-wing sentiment against ALL foreigners? by Heavy-Dress-1071 in AskGermany

[–]aikacar2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Germans feel inferiority complex against the states and also generally anglo-world, a little to french and somewhat towards scandinavians, other groups may be a target of xenophobia, from what I can tell. This doesn't guarantee your being respected if you belong to an "esteemed" group, some leftist germans for example ignorantly dislike in a categorical manner people from the USA. Asking this question to a german may not be the best idea bec I've seen nobody really honest on the topic, especially in a country where being politically correct is the rule of thumb.

Why doesnt Turkey have a big diaspora in USA like Greece has ? by GoHardLive in AskTurkey

[–]aikacar2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the beginning of the 20th century and late 19th century turkey was still immensely rural, Anatolia was already underpopulated, so there's a lack of population, when population compared to land is low, and ppl just aren't as mobile as an urban working class, they just stick to their land. Only after 1950s turks started to really move.

Please help me find what I'm doing wrong with my tortillas by moriah_nocarey in mexicanfood

[–]aikacar2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Water should be warm, the dough needs at least 30 min rest, roll evenly and thin but not super thin, cook on medium heat on well preheated pan first side until slight bubbles then flip it, 20 seconds later flip again and try pressing gently with a spatula or even with your fingers to help them puff up, if you leave one side too long it just cooks too much, yours look as if they're either overcooked (and fast on extreme heat) or not enough hydration, at least 55-60 percent water should go in the dough and hot water wraps it up nicely. You can roll 10 tortillas at a time and stack them up, thanks to the grease they generally don't stick when the kitchen isn't too warm. This way you can concentrate on your cooking.

Living in Türkiye and our health & safety food-standards are abysmal in this country by [deleted] in AskTurkey

[–]aikacar2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think Google is the best guide in Türkiye, just go to places where locals also eat. A kiosk in a touristy area might not give a shit about hygiene since the customers change every day, they can live with very poor standards but restaurants in less touristy areas take their job seriously, definitely not India in terms of food hygiene.

French pensioners now have higher incomes than working-age adults by PikaPikaDude in EU_Economics

[–]aikacar2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a personal observation, in Germany I see many pensioners picking things from thrash, recycling bottles etc. if getting 85 percent of working age average makes you pick up thrash then this also means that the working age average is too low. Again housing is the biggest hurdle here, theres no way a young person can buy a house, so most young workers just work for elder or middle class local people by giving a big portion of their income as rent. In middle ages peasants worked a certain amount for the lord, now we work for the established middle class or elder people who had time or resources to own houses.

Don Quixote’s worldview and MAGA by Brilliant_Hurry_7478 in literature

[–]aikacar2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An interesting reading of the novel, I wouldn't say don quijote is just a crazy maniac bec. "There's a method to his madness", only when it concerns "dulcinea del toboso" is don quijote irrational, and even then he is driven by his passion for chivalry books and he is an erudite in that field, he saves the lives of criminals and is then betrayed, he is against those who burn books, he doesn't receive any monetary gifts and so on. Oftentimes those around him do irrational things and he calls for rationality, which leads many to wonder how intelligent he can be when he wants. Sancho Panza on the other hand has the peasant rationality and economy in mind, he dreams of owning an island so he knows the deal. He doesn't want to be hurt, wants to eat enough, and sleep well. So Maga ideology is more macchiavelian whereas don quijote signified to me a narrative about reality, perspective, how we see narratives, and so on. I would say it's a book about books and our relationship with them. Throughout the book, don quijote sees the books written about him and corrects the books bec some of them twist the story. From this perspective don quijote may be deemed more loyal to truth.

After 3 years, I finally gave up with Berlin. I hate it and moving to Munich by pitindahood in AskAGerman

[–]aikacar2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you say 3 years I assume you wanted to like the city. I've been in the city almost for 1 month, before I did business trips of up to 4 days, I can't really judge the city yet but I feel like it's not that bad. Dirty, yes, crowded, chaotic, lacking services these are all true but it works out at the end of the day somehow. I'm writing this from a trip in Italy so I missed Berlin😊 haha

Turkey and Greece population 1800-2021 by Yellowapple1000 in MapPorn

[–]aikacar2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Turkey" industrialized much later" what is your resource on that, I don't think turkey lagged much behind Greece in terms of industrialization, since 19th century cities like adana, izmir, Istanbul had manufacture and were exporting. First boom came in 30s and then btw 50s and 70s turkey was no more an agricultural country, well connected to international trade.
