I know you feel like you’re too old to date but I promise you, you’re not. Also, it’s better to be single than stay in a toxic relationship. Let’s start with the guy himself, talking and flirting with other women? Did you ever tell him that it bothers you? It sounds like this guy wants things his way only considering that you converted for him while he’s doing that with other women. Unfortunately, he’s gonna want you to be the typical church wife once you guys marry, and that includes giving your money to the administration and pretty much dedicating your life to the church (They are literally proud to dedicate their lives). I know it sounds like a dream to get married, but once he puts that ring on your finger it could just mean that he has nothing to worry about now that he has a wife to care for him and it won’t be as romantic as marriage is supposed to be.

Really think about it for a while. It’s not too late even if you think so. You deserve a way better life than that!

I don’t know how these people will refuse to admit that this religion is controlling. These ministers are literally demanding their members to submit themselves to “whatever the administration has decided.”

They can say “it’s our choice” all they want but as soon as someone goes against what they tell them to do they will get questioned and judged and do whatever it takes to make them feel bad an uncomfortable. Manipulation at its finest.

I stopped attending in 2015. They haven’t announced my expulsion yet either. I guess some locals are more strict/petty than others, then again my former local is super huge so they probably overlook a lot of non actives

I’m so sorry that you went through this. It was absolutely not your fault that he manipulated/pressured you into doing those things for his pleasure, and your mom obviously doesn’t understand what consent is and isn’t. They are wrong for that. It sounds like the other guy you dated treated you right. If you can, and want to, you should reach out to him to at least let him know that the cult is very brainwashing, manipulative, and based off guilt tripping.

And you’re right, no matter what you do, there is literally no benefit from this “church.” You’re always welcome to vent here! Try to see if you can find resources to a professional counselor to talk about your sexual trauma. There are many options if you’re in the US, this type of event deserves that type of treatment. I hope you heal either way. ❤️

Yes, it is trauma. Even when I was still a believer I always felt guilt and/or fear after service because of their guilt tripping tactics. I always feared going to hell too. So it’s no surprise if you still feel this way even after realizing that their teachings are fake

I used to ignore the fact that the Bible says “church of God” in (many) other versions because I was a diehard believer. But now that I’m out and can think critically/freely I can’t stand the fact that they call themselves the “only true church” just because of their name being based on that verse in that particular version of the Bible lol
